Hello all,

I need to know when we send in the papers for AOS. Do we have to wait for the offical copy of the marriage certificate to come in the mail or can we submit a copy of the one that we get the day of the marriage? I was told it takes 30 days to get your offical marriage cert. and don't want to wait that long to do AOS. Thanks for all the help.

If you want to make it faster you can try to go the County Comptroller's Office. They will probably be able to make an official copy once they receive all the paperwork. If you can arrange it, after you are married you can even bring the paperwork there to file the papers in person and to get the official copy done in person. Call the Clerk of Courts office to see the policy on this :).

You need to copy from the issuing agency. It usually takes a couple of weeks.

Thanks so much, so I guess I'll have to wait out a couple weeks for the offical one to come. I will have more time to relax and get all the forms filled. I hope it doesn't take the 30 days though.

You don't have to wait.

We got married on a Sunday - and the next day we were at the County Clerk getting a certified copy (which is just a copy of the certificate with a seal). Our AOS package was in the mail the next day.

Don't send it through the mail and wait for it to come back...that takes time.

Were you were married in a civil service at a courthouse? If so, the copy they gave to you following the ceremony is sufficient (as long as it has the offical seal).

Yep, if it has an official seal then you're good to go.

thanks everyone for the replys, we got married today at the court. They gave us 2 copies of the marriage cert. with the seal. And the lady said this was all they give. Since we got married at the court, they give it to you the same day, no waiting to mail anything. I was unaware. Now we can file AOS, asap.

Don't send the original certified copy with your package. A photocopy of it will suffice.

Congratulations, KNL! USCIS kinda takes the romance out of it when you're online asking AOS questions on your wedding day. <_<:lol:

Ahhhh, true.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

I also felt like I was getting married/preparing for the AOS at the same time since I mailed off the package 2 days after the wedding....oh well, at least I took a few days off of work ;)
