"It may turn out to be best first-person shooter ever, but it's not going to, like, change the world in a meaningful way."

right, as opposed to all of those other video games.

They have. Kids never have to actually go outside and run around, socialize...you know, be kids.

There are places where you don't want your kids to go out and play.

Careful - BY will show up with his "Kids these days are so F'ed up", blaming video games, movies and rap music for turning pre-teens into toddler-abducting murderers ;)

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Clearly video games have existed since the first humans arrived.

Instead of the usual show me the evidence BS fro you 6 or 7 ####### how about we make a bet. For every piece of actual research, not articles, I link indicating violence affecting kids you give me $1,000. If I cannot find any research within x tie, I owe you money. Deal or no Deal?? Time for some of you to put your money where you mouth is..

Well I don't deny that there is research, but making broad generalisations on the basis of that research is really somethign else. The troubled kids who commit heinous acts (like the killers of Jamie Bulger), are vastly outnumbered by the many who don't. Research doesn't have an answer for that does it (and I'm sure you don't either) - except the obvious: That in a social context - video games and movies are not the only influence on behaviour.

Yet that doesn't seem to stop people wanting to blame a murder or some other deviant crime, not on the aberrant behaviour of the perpetrator but on external things like the media. After all - I'm sure John Lennon's murder could have been prevented if that irresponsible J.D Salinger hadn't written "The Catcher in the Rye" which Mark Chapman would later use to 'explain' his actions. Now why isn't he in jail as an accessory to the crime? I'm outraged!

Sure thing pops.. Maybe you can use "diplomacy" with these troubled kids. Maybe if John Lennon and Jamie had been a little more "diplomatic" they would not have been killed..

You have context issues - unless you want to blame Islamic fundamentalist terrorism on the Halo series and Bill Gates.

Maybe blackwater is to blame or the 1953 coup..

maybe they have teamed up together to create a training game for the terrorists. those who have mastered the game are known as terrorists with artificial training scenarios (TWATS).

Maybe your obvious mental illness is the result of all this 'research' you've read.
