TEXAS newcomers

I guess this is a question to all of the newcomers to Texas from the Philippines. I've been trying to make sure that my soon to be wife is prepared for everything over here once she arrives (hard to cover all the bases I know). And one of the biggest adjustments will be temperature. Depending upon where you go I know that you can see temps of 65 degrees( F) to almost 90 degrees ( F) in the Philippines. Over here in Dallas you can see temps easily range from -20 degrees ( F) to 120 degrees ( F). How have y'all adjusted and what did it take to help you along? And please feel free to talk of any other adjustments you've had to make. We'd be very interested in hearing. Thanks everyone.

I might not be old, but I've seen alot in my time. Texas is just one of those places that you never know what to expect.

We're going to San Antonio in 1.5 weeks, we've discussed about adjustments, fiance said weather is typically same like Manila but cooler during winter season and can be real hot on summer (im used to humid weather).. im not sure what he meant by cooler, is it -0 F? hehe. When is your fiancee coming to Houston? ANd other than weather, FOOD is one adjustment too, fiance gonna get me 50 lbs of rice and a rice cooker! and of course, being away from Manila (missing friends and Family) Thank God for the internet.

We are in SoCal and Claudeth has to put on the jackets when it gets below 75 so twenty below is certainly going to be a shock to a Filipina! I am sure she will adapt

With her arriving in mid Nov. that means it just might be a bit cool, but nothing more (more than she's used to). Then again we could have 80 degrees into the new year. It happens every few years. Depending on the weather I'll have a good jacket waiting for her.

Ill be goin to texas too.. to be exact EL PASO But am not sure yet.. Hopefully this year...

im already here in north texas...Wichita falls county, and i loved it here. and you are right, we have unpredictable weather or let us say we have extremes weather sometimes. when its summer..its super hot, during winter its too called. since our place here is near the pan handle we always experience to have snow. i love texas

I know a hubby of a pinay in the Northeast that wouldn't let his wife go outside in the winter as she told him she would " sleep" on the ice!!

Main thing is to have a rice cooker and find out where she can buy fresh tilapia or bangus!

If it's anything in texas it's an extreme. At least y'all get snow in the panhandle area. We get slush here in DFW. It might snow and just barely coat the ground. Then it's already melting. Then it freezes overnight and makes the roads sheets of ice for the morning traffic. By the time it turns midday it's already ugly brown slush everywhere. The last good snow we had in Dallas was way back in 1983. I was just a little boy out playing in the snow then.

And you never know when you'll hit rain. You can be driving down the highway in beautiful sunshine and suddenly you hit a wall of intense rain. Oh the fun we have

That was probably "slip" on the ice I want a rice cooker myself as even without her here I cook rice quite often.

oh yeah thats so true, lol! one time i was so in a hurry to come home coz it was raining so hard at my work place...it was raining big time, to my surprise when i reach the hi-way...the sun is smiling hahahah! but i love it here. i cant forget the first time i ate at Fuddruckers, i was surprised to see the 1lb burger thats big as my head! hahahah! now i believe everything is big in texas. when i order food i have to share it with my hubby...
