IMO This story only got an airing because Columbia University is smack dab in the middle of the one of the largest Jewish communities in the country.

I dunno - I've seen plenty of mis-spellings of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hillary Clinton. Still spellings aside - we all know who we're talking about

I could definitely see a good reason for many different spellings of "Mahmoud Ahmadinejad" since it's not really an English name. It's being translated into the English alphabet from an entirely different language, so there are probably quite a few alternative spellings.

Having said that, I don't understand why people have trouble with "Hillary Clinton." That's not exactly foreign.

My point was to 'know your enemy' you should be able to spell his / her name. Even if its not in English (even newscasters can't seem to settle on Osama or Usama).
