That's all you'll need.

Actually, all the Canadian government cares about is your passport, but you'll need both your passport and green card in order to return to the US.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Reba, that's exactly what I was going to say! :P

If you're crossing by land, hokeybutt, they may not even ask for your passport. I know they never did with me (at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo/Fort Erie). Even though I was driving a car with American tags. Weird.

I would think a green card would be sufficient too. When you go to Canada and they punch in your name it will come up that you are from Canada. And when you return to the states, a green card gives you the right to be there so why would they need your passport?

I HATE miles, gallons, pints, words spelled without u's, and all that other jazz...

Because CBP recommends it.

?? I'm not following you. You asked why they need your passport. The CBP website recommends you bring a passport in addition to your green card. (Plus it's required for air travel.) I guess you'd need to directly ask CBP the question if you're wondering why they're recommending it.

It's no problem, I just thought you were being smart. If they want a passport, that's fine. I just think it's wierd. A green card is a legal document entitling you to live and work in the United States. It shouldn't matter if you have a passport from your native country or not, when you have the green card.

Yeah, I was aware of the upcoming new law for U.S. citizens to have a passport. However, WHEN they need to have it keeps changing by the day.

It's no problem, I just thought you were being smart.

Oh no. Sorry. I didn't mean to give that impression.

No problem. I over reacted. take care.
