Things that you don't miss (anymore) back in your country

Things in Canada that annoyed me.

Everything I bought from the internet didn't have free shipping and/or was more expensive to ship compared to the USA. Also had to pay sales tax on things purchased on the internet regardless of where they were from. The post office was good but UPS was the absolute worst for adding fees for shipping across the border.

Weather was mild, but kind of boring. In Texas it's REALLY humid, or REALLY raining, the cold fronts come and go lightning quick. 85° one week, 45° the next.

Don't have to deal with ferries anymore. But that was location specific. Not really country related.

In Canada, I had summer cars and winter cars. More expensive to own multiple cars....on the other hand, a lot of the nice cars in Canada are still nice and low mileage. Summer only. Cars in Texas have 100,000 in 3 years it seems. Harder to find a mint car in TX. Then again, the price of a new car in the US is much cheaper than it is in Canada.

Don't forget the duty fees! One thing I certainly won't miss

Actually I've never paid duty fees when buying from the internet. Just GST/PST. Post office was cheap as far as brokerage (Flat $5), but the couriers always added huge amounts to the price.

I asked my husband this question today - knowing already a lot of what he doesn't miss (good idea for a topic by the way).

He doesn't miss how you can work very hard and are still underpaid (like Nessa said).

And

- the CROWDED buses

- how it's super hard to make it in life if you come from a poor family

- how hard it is to get what you want - even if you work hard

- the humidity (he's from the Amazon)

Basically he loves how you can work hard, and no matter what color you are, if you show this to your employer you can grow in your work. You can buy a nice car and a house and really create a life for you - with perserverence.

He loves the AC everywhere too.

There's a few things i MISS:

1. NHS, I just dont understand when people complain about it. When i was 16 I was very ill and there isnt a day that goes by that im greatful I lived in the UK when it happened as I would have (or my parents) been made bankrupt. I HATE this whole health insurance thing.

2. Cheap fruit & veg (could just be expensive coz im in AZ)

3. Knowing the exact price i'll be paying when i go to the cash register to pay, without having to figure out 8.1% on top of the price.

4. THE VACATION days off work - I think its disgusting that employers dont have to provide even 1 paid day of vacation

5. The maternity time woman can have off (4 weeks in the us - some places even less?? thats not right)

6. Being able to walk down a street!! (ok - probably coz im in AZ again)

7. No commercials on BBC!!

8. TRAVELLING!!! I LOVE and MISS the UK so much for being able to travel to europe, or many other places so cheaply - this is something that is very depressing for me being in the states and finding out it cost more to travel from arizona to cali than to travel from the uk to italy!!!

Thats all for now - i'll probably think of more!!!
