I-864 and I-864a Question re: Notary

I must be thick to still be asking questions at this stage.

I am compiling all of the documents I need to submit with our I-864 and I-864a in anticipation of receiving them this week (the NVC says they were sent a week or so ago). I have a question and am seeking some reassurance.

1. Is there a requirement once all of the documents are done to take the entire package to the consulate here and have a US notary notarize our signatures on the form before we sent them on?

2. We will be solely dependent on assets. Am I correct in assuming plain old photcopies of all documents are sufficient with this submission? I have all of our bank statements, the ownership, mortgage and assessment on the US house, IRA and my RSP statements and stock and mutual fund holdings. I plan on holding on to originals for the interview. Am I doing the right thing?

3. Has anyone used statements printed from on-line? There are some accounts for which we do not receive statements, some for which we get electronic statements (which we could print)?

Thanks,

Ed

hiya Ed,

The questions never end, don't worry!

1: The signatures on the FORM must be notarized by a US Notary Public or Consular Officer. If you are all in Canada, this can be done at the American Citizen Services section of a Consulate. There should be NO CHARGE for doing this in conjunction with a visa application. I don't have the rule to hand, but remember that it is so.

2: That's exactly what I did. Submit photocopies and take originals to the interview. Originals were checked and returned to me.

3: Again, same as what I did. Since I was not 'at home', I had to access all my info online. No comment/no complaint = Success!

Sounds like you are on track! yay :)
