here in NY you can get all the food, fruits, vegetables and all that, there is a large community of Filipinos here that every Friday night at around 6-7PM you see them crossing the streets to go to their neighbors' houses just to give food ..however, there is no place like the Philippines!

We found a little Filipino grocery store where Claudeth can get her favorite rice and it is actually about one fourth what it costs in the grocery stores. She bought 50 pounds  That should be good for a couple of weeks

Is it the Jasmin rice? We have to keep 50lbs at home too since we eat rice 3x a day in the house.

jasmine rice is the only closest rice so far for me to taste like home. lol... you can find it in a small bag at any grocery store, but one time we went to a big asian market (an hr away from our place) and i got 40 lbs sack... hehehe... but im lucky enough to have it just once a day most likely during dinner :( to eat some rice... its ok, sometimes ill cook some champorado for snacks (which my husband thinks its kinda of creepy for me to eat rice swimming in a chocolate soup :D ) ... who cares :P

Jasmine is what Claudeth found at the Filipino grocery store and it only cost us about fifty cents per pound as opposed to over two dollars for a kilo in Vons or Ralphs. We bought a 50 pound bag!

For some reason Claudeth just loves the Jasmine. The place is called Egg Rolls Etc and is in Orange on Chapman just to the west of Main STreet.

I miss my favorite fruits....rambutan, fresh jack fruit, buko and DURIAN! Yummy!!!! I miss Jollibee and Chicken Joy. I miss my family and my baby lots!!!! We have a nice asian market here where I live in CA, but still missing lots of foods from home. I miss the kinilaw. Tuna is SOOOOO expensive here.....like 1200php plus per kilo equivelant in dollar. At home its only 180php per kilo. I miss ginang-gang. I miss puto and biko benignet. I miss Chow-king's Halo Halo and Nai-Cha drinks. :crying::crying::crying:

But I love my husband and I am so happy I came to the USA to live with him. I'm so grateful he is doing his best to help me feel like home with letting me cook filipino foods and watching TFC Channel from the satellite. He loves filipino foods too. :) He also makes sure I have telephone and internet contact with my baby and my family every day so I don't miss them so much. I love my honey! (L)(L)(L)

I miss my family...i cannot hug them when i badly wanted to. I miss the tropical weather, the motorela, the bakeries, the small stores where we can say..."pabili ng suka", ginamos hmmm, lechon baboy(pampamatay hehe), ginataang langgka(jackfruit) and FRESH fish unlike here...freshly frozen hehe. But that's about it. I am thankful and blessed that i came here to the states and i'm happily married.

My husband took the liberty of buying a 25lbs rice in an oriental store when I was about to come here. It was so sweet of him... The only problem was, he got fancy rice (we call it "malagkit") instead of regular rice. I told him that "malagkit" is what we use for special sweets and "kakanin" in the Philippines. Since I cannot eat plain steamed fancy rice (basically because it's too sticky), we bought another 25lbs regular rice and mix them together. Now I don't have to worry about missing rice.:dance::dance:
