Companies these days try to squeeze every possible inch of productivity out of you. They don't care that we are human beings. This is what corporate america is like these days. I know, I was fired from such a company (and things only got worse once i was out)

It's overly eager pissheads of managers that make corporate America like that. I successfully work and have successfully worked in corporate America as well. In fact, I work for the very same company as Nani does and not once have I treated any employee like that. I worked for a company where the GM wanted single mothers written up if they didn't make it to work on days where schools and daycares were closed because of bad weather. Did I do that? Hell no! I made phonecalls and got other employees to cover those shifts. The GM called me once on it and I just told him: Give it a shot and try and fire my ####### for it. Needless to say, he didn't.

I just hate it when fcuking robots are put in charge of staff. If you can't think for your damn self and if you habitually leave your balls and your humanity at the security desk on the way into the office, you ought not to be a manager. Period!

That really sucks, do you both work in a call centre at all? I used to work for T Mobile customer service and in a 9 hour shift we were allowed 1% per day toilet time, that equates to about 5 minutes!!! All the rest of the time we had to be logged on to our telephones taking incoming calls, call centre work sucks big time!

I'm sorry she had to go through that. I'm glad though that you're both willing to deal with it...not only for your own sakes, but so that they think twice before doing it to someone else.

Best of luck on dealing with it...and do watch the stress levels, both of you.

ET...I feel obliged to prefix my comments with this; you know that we have a common bond and I feel for you at this time, however in my opinion I think you should back down and cool off....

Regardless of whether or not this action (review) was, or is justified by her manager is subjective.

Given that the both of you work for the same company it's not a good idea to take your disagreements into your workplace.

Many companies, such as mine, have specific policies excluding immediate family members from being employed for this very reason and circumstance. There are certainly situations and circumstances whereby a subordinate employee's performance can be construed as below expectations and that obviously can be a very much a problem if the employee is a relative of someone of significant position/rank in the same company.

This situation has been much talked about and discussed in corporate america and has resulted in many corporations opting to excluding family members from employment. I'm sure you're familiar with the term nepotism.

Anyway, this is a good place to vent as you'll get plenty of support here but you need to chill out when you go to work.

There's nothing you're going to do to change the situation, unless of course you own the company.......

Good luck to you and Nani!

Well, maybe if Nani's performance was bad that would be an issue..if she was missing work, late on a regular basis,etc...but I don't think her production being down 3% one day/week whatever seems to be grounds for a writeup..not in any company I ever worked for anyway..and my last one was pretty harsh with regulations! Anyway, I just posted to say 'go get em Reinhard' before I decided to say that! The way it sounds to me(preparing over the weekend, knowing your arguements, etc) it doesn't sound to me like you are going to go in there are freak on anyone...just correct an issue that was wrong to begin with. It seems to me if you were going to do THAT, it would have been done already! Good luck with all of it..how ridiculous!! Michelle

Sorry to hear that Nani's manager is such an automaton. I would definitely complain because an individual in power who does not respect the needs of his inferiors is a danger to the company. Despite what people might think, a manager's job includes administration of human resources for maximum profit; this does not mean writing up productive workers because they intermittently were less productive, but to retain productive workers and help them reach their maximum productivity. Companies in which managers treat their workers as fellow human beings are usually the most successful and enduring.

Good luck, Reinhard and Nani!

zomg reinhard.. getting written up for that?? in my store my manager is in a same predicament.. a girl got pregnant.. but she's been missing work days at least for a full week.. she doesnt go to work and the days she is she starts 'ohh i feel so bad, oh i feel so bad' so after some whiny minutes he decides to let her go...

although well.. is not the same 'lowering your performance' (which i dont think 3% can be called that at all) and skipping a lotta work days cuz ur sick lol..

Poor Nani :(

She really needs all this stress right now like she needs a hole in the head.

And I say WTG Reinhard for being a supportive hiubby and daddy-to-be and sticking up for her. If what the company are doing is against their own rules then its WRONG and thats all she wrote.

Hmmm.

This company has already fired one pregnant employee ? And they just happen to suddenly find fault with Nani's performance only a week or two after being informed of her pregnancy ? The timing is very suspicious. It might seem to enquiring minds that they're trying to "build a paper trail" to justify firing her, in a ploy to avoid shouldering the "burden" of her medical care/maternity leave.

Very interesting. I'm sure a lawyer will find it very interesting as well.

I'm sorry that Nani has to deal with this added stress and anxiety during her pregnancy... it's the last thing an expectant mother needs.

Wishing you both the very best.

What about smokers? They always get the most breaks it seems. But ever remembers that especially when the manager smokes too.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
