Giuliani pauses during NRA talk to take call from his wife

I see this behavior at meetings at work. I'm convinced people are too stupid to silence the call or put phone on vibrate/silent. They'll just answer the phone like it's their only option.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

"Yes dear, I'll be home before midnight. Yes I will pick up the milk".

What was wrong with spaghetti? :P

I looked at it after I'd written it and it occurred to me that it wasn't worth the trouble having to potentially explain why I chose that food item for that particular guy.

The joke wasn't that funny anyway, so I figured it didn't much matter ;)

I've never seen that before, but that was pretty funny. :P

He's smart though -- you always take a call from your family. At least, I figure you do. You never know when that call could be a matter of life-or-death. Maybe 99 times out of a 100 it'll be a call solely for "chit-chat" but one time (and that's all you need) it could be something really serious and that's when you absolutely need to take the call.

Giuliani appeared today before the National Rifle Association — a group he once likened to extremists — and defended his very vocal past advocacy of tougher gun laws while affirming the right of law-abiding citizens to bear arms.

Flip flop, flip flop.

Well... I don't know if that necessarily works out to him being a "flip-flopper." Although I can definitely understand why you'd think so.

How I see it is he wants more regulations on firearms, while still allowing citizens the right to own them. While the NRA may want absolutely no gun laws on the books, that's just insane. They're as nutty as those who want to completely ban the ability for citizens to own firearms at all.

Naturally, the two extremes only see the picture in black-and-white terms. They're also the most vocal, so that's what the public hears: "Everyone has a gun or no one has a gun." There's a happy medium somewhere there and I'm sure that in time, it could eventually be found.

Breaking your self imposed prohibition on political comments? J/K Dev, I too am trying to tone things down.

I don't think Giuliani is flip-flopping here. He isn't kissing the NRA's azz or anything. Talking to them to explain his position is a good idea. Giuliani never was "anti-gun" but he does lean towards further restrictions. I think the idea of suing gun manufacturers is what really irked the gun lobby.
