Michelle Malkin: Anchor Baby

The tripe that Malkin supports would restrict citizenship from the kids of people legally here who are foreigners, not just illegals. Alberto Gonzales I believe is also another 'anchor baby' (yes, surprisingly, not picking melons.), or at least he sure changes the subject fast when they ask whether his mom was here legally.

I do not think it is racist to want to enforce laws. I still think 'anchor baby' is something that is not nearly a big enough deal to get worked up over. I think it is racist when your justification for doing so is that 'their daddy was an illiterate melon picker.' Stereotypes are cheap around here.

I think you miss the point. And you also cry "racism" when something doesn't fit your take on the issue and you want to claim the high moral ground.

If you look at what, who, and where the crowd abusing the system is from and who is using the "anchor baby" issue to benefit from mass illegal immigration, it is overwhelmingly illiterate/semi-literate high school dropouts coming across the Mexican border from a multitude of countries (including Mexico). The USA is importing illiteracy and poverty. And the vast majority of this group is illegally in our country.

The only people that are benefitting from this institutionalized corruption is the illegal aliens themselves, their illegal employers, and the governments of the countries that conveniently kick their problems over the border for someone else to deal with while reaping billion$ in remittances for doing so.

A vast majority of Americans are getting screwed in this deal. Shouldn't the American economy's primary goal be to serve the needs of the American people? Is benefitting the few at the expense of the many what American economic policy is all about?

Cheap streotypes? All I see is a cheap shot at Michelle Malkin for stating the obvious.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Calling all illegals 'illiterate melon pickers' is just uninformed. That's just indulging in a stereotype that isn't accurate and rude to boot. It's like throwing in asides about watermelon and collard greens when trying to talk about urban poverty.

It's not 'stating the obvious' when it's false. Having a child here does not mean that you get to stay. And while it is an expense on hospitals when people don't pay their bills, it's not one directly tied to anyone's immigration status. Poor Americans have babies in hospitals without paying for them, too. (It's a big problem in Atlanta.) They're separate but related problems. Ending birthright citizenship will probably stop a few people from crossing (like the Korean couples, who aren't melon pickers, either).

But it isn't going to do a damned thing about your typical illegal immigrant, who is a young man looking for work (and obviously not pregnant.) So my worry is that we end birthright citizenship, but people still end up coming here for work and having kids here and working illegally, except now instead of their kids assimilating and going to high school and college as citizens like Alberto Gonzales, they'll end up a permanent, disenfranchised, Hispanic underclass, not welcome in the U.S. but never having been to Mexico.

That's about the quickest way to massive civil unrest short of apartheid.

But you know. Melons.

Of course not all uneducated, unskilled, illegal aliens are melon pickers...but I would venture to guess that the vast majority of melon pickers are uneducated, unskilled, illegal aliens.

At this point...I could give a rat's azz whether it is rude to call an illegal alien anything but an undocumented worker or the latest P.C. term of "migrant" or the even more absurd of "immigrant" to lump them together with legal immigrants and cloud the issue with even more deception.

I've personally watched this phenomenon of mass illegal immigration into America unfold over the last 30 years and enough is enough! I could care less about whether illegal aliens are stimatized. They should be stigmatized instead embraced.

Provide an article written by Michelle where she says she is against legal immigrants having their children born in the US become citizens.

How about any article she has written discussing anchor babies.

So...what's so terrible about Michelle's reasoning? She has a point and I would agree with that point she is trying to get across.

The USA should get with the 21st Century and modernize its citizenship laws to reflect the realities of the 21st Century world. Hanging on to archaic laws and practices of the 19th Century in 21st Century America is stupid and detrimental to our country.

The vast majority of modern industrialized democratic welfare states have done away with birthright citizenship and require at least one parent to be a citizen for the child to claim automatic citizenship. The USA's practice of allowing the children of illegal aliens automatic citizenship is way out of step with most of the modern industrialized world in this regard.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

That's a 4 year old article... and I'll agree with it.

Clearly, the custom of granting automatic citizenship at birth to children of tourists and temporary workers such as Hamdi, and to countless "anchor babies" delivered by illegal aliens on American soil, undermines the integrity of citizenship - not to mention national security. Originally intended to ensure the citizenship rights of newly freed slaves and their families after the Civil War, the citizenship clause has evolved into a magnet for alien lawbreakers and a shield for terrorist infiltrators and enemy combatants.

Who's pissing and moaning? This thread is about Michelle being an anchor baby herself and supposedly making some big deal about others being anchor babies and the only article anyone has made a reference to is 4 years old.

If someone wants to claim Michelle is a hypocrite they are going to have to do a much better job than this ...
