Michelle Malkin: Anchor Baby

Michelle Maglalang was the product of one Dr. Apolo Maglalang and his wife still works as a pediatrician in New Jersey. He came here on a “work visa” from the Philippines. Shortly thereafter, little Michelle was born.

A cursory review of Doc Apolo’s medical background comes up empty. He doesn’t have any lawsuits pending against him. He hasn’t any citations against him medically, and holds the required medical licenses, etc. But the timing of Malkin’s birth is what’s important. She was, in fact, what the Right likes to call an “anchor baby” or “jackpot baby.

...

According to the facts, Doc Apolo arrived in the US under a work visa sometime in 1970, and Malkin was born “months” later, in October. Now it’s conceivable that Doc Apolo arrived in the US in January, immediately knocked up the missus, and never intended on using the fetus as a convenience. It’s conceivable, but unlikely. The window of opportunity there is just too small, and in all likelihood Doc Apolo arrived here with the full understanding that he was bringing with him a pregnant wife due to give birth sometime inside the term of his visa. But even if he didn’t intend on little Michelle being a jackpot baby, the fact that he stayed in the US through October, rather than return to the Philippines like a good immigrant, means Michelle was a jackpot baby — a fact which immediately granted Doc Apolo’s caterwauling spawn legal US citizenship, and tossed a whole bunch of US rights into his family’s lap.

What does Ms. Malkin have to say about “anchor babies”? Here’s what:

During my book tour across the country for Invasion, this issue came up time and again. In the Southwest, everyone has a story of heavily pregnant women crossing the Mexican border to deliver their “anchor babies.” At East Coast hospitals, tales of South Korean “obstetric tourists” abound. (An estimated 5,000 South Korean anchor babies are born in the US every year). And, of course, there’s a terrorism angle.

Ouch. Okay, but Malkin’s dad came over legally, right? So she’s not technically an “anchor baby,” is she?

Wrong. According to the Right-wing talking points on immigration, a baby born to immigrants here on work or travel visas is still an anchor baby, because the baby lubricates the “guest” worker’s path to premature citizenship, and immediately heaps a load of Federal benefits on the baby– all of which Michelle herself took advantage of, we can assume. Take a look:

Whole industries have now developed around abusing the Fourteenth Amendment. Pregnant Korean tourists come to the U.S. on travel visas to have their “anchor” babies. Coyotes dealing in human traffic are paid $1,500.00 to $25,000.00 per person to shuttle pregnant illegal aliens across our southern border. Our politicians and elites wink at this blatant law breaking and do nothing. The colonization of our country continues with the cooperation of our government. That means your senator and representative aid this illegal baby invasion. None dare call it treason. Most Americans mistakenly trust their politicians to do the right thing. Congressional members from every state betray that trust daily. (Link)

....

So, let’s recap: Michelle Malkin, who is making a personal fortune on her rhetoric against illegal immigrants and their offspring, is such an offspring herself. Talk about your self-loathing. At least she makes good money at it. I wonder what her Dad feels about her opinions, seeing as how they are directly, and undeniably, aimed at him?

Now, you ask, how is this funny?

Hell, how is this not funny?

Exactly this situation happened in Anaheim about 30 miles away from me this week. She left the baby abandoned in a Church and then changed her mind and now apparently wants it back. I understand that there could have bene other negative emotions in the mother if her story really is true so I am not judging her, but it does make oyu wonder if she changed her mind because once she was here with her family, found out the benefits it coudl convey to her. It's hard not to be cynical.

See link: http://www.ocregister.com/news/anaheim-wom...porter-martinez

......reported on her network that the woman, who is from Puebla, Mexico, told authorities she had no idea she was pregnant when made the long trek on foot to cross the border into the United States (Yeah, right). The baby girl was born Sept. 12 in Anaheim. The woman, who has been staying with relatives in Anaheim, speaks only Spanish,

Like you said, she makes money on her rhetoric against illegal immigrants. While I'm sure everyone would agree that it is a loophole in immigration law for legal entrants (travel/work VISA, etc.) to be able to stay solely because they gave birth here, there is certainly a difference between entering the country legally and illegally. Of course that difference is lost with some people.

So what? One of the greatest things this country does is all born here are automatically citizens. Whining about "anchor babies" and the like is basically racism. People coming here legally or illegally to bive birth to a US citizen, if that's a problem it's way way WAY down in priority.

Anyway, doesn't "conservative" mean you want to keep the status quo?

I don't know what your beef with Michelle is. In 1970 this was a non-issue because it wasn't the mob scene it is today.

Plus...Michelle's daddy wasn't an illiterate melon picker abusing the cornucopia of social welfare benefits available to the multitude of cheats that are raping and abusing the system today. I dare say Michelle's daddy (and Michelle too) have contributed way more to the USA than they ever took and never cost the taxpayer a red cent.

You can't say that about the flotilla that has crossed the Rio Grande in mass on inner tubes in the last 20+ years.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

hmm - a melon picker actually does something useful for society, farm work. I'm not sure exactlywhat it is that Michelle Malkin does that "contributes" to anything

paying her taxes? :innocent:

 Paying taxes, not using social services, and not sending loot back "home" to the tune of billion$ of dollar$.

Michelle Malkin in not an anchor baby by any stretch of that definition.

1) How's that racism?

2) The birth of my daughter - a non-complicated scheduled c-section - cost about $30,000.00. Which I paid a portion of and the rest was paid by the insurance that I secured and pay for through my employment. Birth tourism ought to be quite an item - fiscally speaking. 5,000 just from South Korea? 5,000 X $30,000.00 = $150,000,000.00. South Korea or South Koreans ain't paying that. We, the American taxpayers, do. And that's just the South Korean birth tourism. Follow-up benefits not included. Those are plentiful, too. Either way, just multiply the cost of the birth times and again to account for them all and I'd say it becomes a pretty significant figure which should not be considered a way, way, way down priority.

Also, such idea that "like a good immigrant, Dr. Apollo should have returned to P.I." is twaddle. The worker (or employer) pays for the child born to temp worker (through insurance premiums), where the children of Mexican illegals--it is taxpayer!
