Packing Things to US

Hi everyone. My fiance will come here in few months to fetch me. Im so OC and I want to ready all my things to bring.

He suggested I bring as many as I want especially my clothes. D would be bringing 2 big luggages and 1 carry-on in coming here so I will have space for my things on his other luggages since he'll only bring few things. Now, would it be ok if I just buy 2 balikbayan boxes instead of 2 big luggages? I just want to be practical coz boxes cost less than luggages.

Anyway, anyone here who brought 2 big boxes with them? Any experience? comment/suggestion?

i didnt bring any balikabayan boxes when i came here, but my friend frm manila brought 2 big boxes lol saying she's a got a lot of stuff to bring and could save that way than buying clothes in the US... she said we're entitled to bring 2 big boxes (have to clarify it first)... so basing on her, maybe that'll be a good thing to do but a bit heavier ... happy trip!!!

Tape them up good and keep in mind you will pay for extra weight. Claudeth have four suitcases and ended up paying about $100 extra.

No balikbayan boxes here in Dipolog so I bought 1 large and 1 medium luggages . PAL allows 64 kilos as long as one luggage doesnt exceed 32 kilos . . . so far I am good. I am actually packed for the trip, even bringing few soaps made inthe Philippines, hahaha, Joe thinks its funny but well it is what it is

You are allowed to bring 2 boxes as long as it doesn't excess the weight limits. bring tape though without those blades. a tape that you can just rip like a masking tape. but base upon my observation though...boxes tend to get caught in the eye of immigration staff @ POE, they more likely to open it. so bring musking tape. samething if you only have one luggage..they more suspicious about it. been travelling to phil. since I was 16 years old.....ever since I carry 2 suitcases and a backpack........ they don't check my baggage nomore. I don't know maybe is just me....maybe I look like osama

Balikbayan boxes are fine! You'll see LOTS of them when you are checking in!

Put rope around them so they can be opened and also for carrying easily.

The inspectors open ours and sealed them up after.

Bring LOTS of bras and panties. Cheaper by far in the Philippines.

We'll be leaving in 2 weeks, me and my son have a box and 2 check in luggages.. Check with your airline first how much weight they provide, NWA gave us 70 lbs for every checked luggages/box. I got a duct tape and a rope for the box, all our clothes will go to the luggage and stuff like shoes, some toys and other things we cant left behind will go to the box..

International flights out of Manila allow 75lbs per lugauge. The allow 2 Boxes or suitcases, and I carry on and 1 purse or laptop case.

If you do not wissh to incur additional fees, make sure your boxes weigh 75 lbs or less and keep in mind that you should include spare tape in the box. Immigration will be searching your stuff for sure on first arrival. You will need to retape the boxes when they are done.

What's funny is that boxes seem to get priority over the actual luggage. Go figure!!!

When I arrived in the Philippines, the boxes were removed from the planes before the luggage. So this Aussie guy and myself were laughing about that in the terminal during my visit. We waited about 20 minutes and nothing but boxes were removed from the plane first. It was funny and frustrating. I know that you are coming to the US but it seems that packing huge boxes to take on the plane to and from the Phil is normal. Hmmm!!!
