She is fluent in arabic and does translations of al qaeda releases. I have no idea who she is entirely but the site kind of speaks for itself. I found it especially interesting that she follows the blogs... I have read about several american women like this. I do not know where they find the time to do this stuff. I don't think you can completely discount what she is doing. I still do not understand how she can read arabic so fluently. She must have been trained at the defense language institute or something. AOL puts this out like she is just some ordinary housewife. Far from it. She was working for the American embassy in Lebanon at the time of the beirut hijacking. She also does audio analyses for the crime library site and did the analyses of the Nick Berg beheading. I am at a loss for words as far as everything else the above poster said. I did not even know who she was until today. Did any of you actually look at her site? What do you think?

Charles, often some women marry men and immediately take their opinions as their own. Try to address terrorist groups such as hezbollah and hamas and you will get everything from apathy to people defending suicide bombings. Yes, you can be a muslim and not always agree with what everyone else is saying. I think that Laura Mansfield has so much to contribute to the war on militant islam but she made the fatal mistake of bringing her own baggage to the table. Yes, I think Americans would definitely find it offensive to listen to muslims inside mosque joking about emotionally terrorising passengers on a plane as revenge for being racially profiled. I think that one article you linked to is horriblyoffensive to Americans. You can be muslim and NOT anti USA. You can be a muslim and not be an apologist for terror. I got a call from my husband today that Al Qaeda has now started attacking civilians in North Africa, something that hasnt happened there in years. In less than 6 months, Al qaeda has hit the magreb multiple times. The video of the horrific April bombing is on Laura's site and is unavailable on youtube or anywhere else but her site and its free. I may not agree with the things she says but I am glad the site is there to be kept up to date on terror threats across North Africa. I cannot stand many authors but I am able to look at information and take what I want from it. The more I look at her site, the more I realise while she has gone about things the wrong way, she is doing a valuable service in translating these boards and staying one step ahead of the bloggers . I find it offensive even more that someone would tell me what to read and what not to read. I am glad I can think for myself. I have my own opinions about what constitutes terrorism and frankly I would never tell another person what or what not to read. What is my point of reference? She may be "bollocks"but the content on her site is not. It is real and horrible and true. I had never before seen the preparation of the bombs that killed over 53 people, men women and children in April. There are videos and translations that are on her site that can be found no where else and her transcritions of terror boards are invaluable in stopping things like happened yesterday in North Africa. Al qaeda attacked foreign dam workers ( NOT MILITARY, NOT GOVERNMENT) construction workers working on something to better Algeria's infrastructure. I will not be an apologist for terror and dismiss an entire body of work because I don't agree with everything everyone says. I do not like her( this Laura person) but I always do my best to analyse every piece of info that passes me by because I do not automatically follow the next persons opinion. I have seen women who were never anti semitic all of the sudden hate everything jewish because they married someone who grew up hating jewish people. Its just dumb. You don't have to run along behind everyone elses opnion because its popular.

I know this sounds funny but when me and my husband were in Tunis, we were at a restaurant and I asked a man to take our picture. He had a heavy accent. I asked him where he was from and he said Israel. My husband ' s face went white and after the man left, my husband told me he had never met a jewish person before and that the man seemed nice. I was kind of surprised at how shaken up my husband was. He told me that every time he wasgrowing up he heard that jews were monsters and bad and this and that. I said thats because politcs and what people really are do not always collide. The reality is for every predjedice Americans have towards arabs and muslims, they have ones towards westerners and people that are outside their world.... weird conspiracy theories, hatred for our culture and traditions. You have to be strong to be able to keep your own thoughts and opinions when you plunge into a foreign culture. Its tough. You sometimes have to change yourself regrettably to be able to weather a marriage to someone from another culture( I unfortunately have had to give some things up)

Just my opinion and no I wont be selling terrorist transcriptions any time soon. I will keep my day job...thanks

Charles, often some women marry men and immediately take their opinions as their own. Try to address terrorist groups such as hezbollah and hamas and you will get everything from apathy to people defending suicide bombings. Yes, you can be a muslim and not always agree with what everyone else is saying. I think that Laura Mansfield has so much to contribute to the war on militant islam but she made the fatal mistake of bringing her own baggage to the table. Yes, I think Americans would definitely find it offensive to listen to muslims inside mosque joking about emotionally terrorising passengers on a plane as revenge for being racially profiled. I think that one article you linked to is horriblyoffensive to Americans. You can be muslim and NOT anti USA. You can be a muslim and not be an apologist for terror. You can be muslim and NOT think every muslim out there is nice. You do NOT have to negate an entire body of work ( such as Lauras translations of salafi jihadist boards) because you do not like her. SHe is daily ssending out translations of boards where acts of terror are planned and the USA does not have enough translators to monitor boards and without people like Laura, misguided or not, we would be behind in knowing what was going on.

I got a call from my husband today that Al Qaeda has now started attacking civilians in North Africa, something that hasnt happened there in years. In less than 6 months, Al qaeda has hit the magreb multiple times. The video of the horrific April bombing is on Laura's site and is unavailable on youtube or anywhere else but her site and its free. I may not agree with the things she says but I am glad the site is there to be kept up to date on terror threats across North Africa. I cannot stand many authors but I am able to look at information and take what I want from it. The more I look at her site, the more I realise while she has gone about things the wrong way, she is doing a valuable service in translating these boards and staying one step ahead of the bloggers . I find it offensive even more that someone would tell me what to read and what not to read. I am glad I can think for myself. I have my own opinions about what constitutes terrorism and frankly I would never tell another person what or what not to read. What is my point of reference? She may be "bollocks"but the content on her site is not. It is real and horrible and true. I had never before seen the preparation of the bombs that killed over 53 people, men women and children in April. There are videos and translations that are on her site that can be found no where else and her transcritions of terror boards are invaluable in stopping things like happened yesterday in North Africa. Al qaeda attacked foreign dam workers ( NOT MILITARY, NOT GOVERNMENT) construction workers working on something to better Algeria's infrastructure. well said. and yeah, i've noticed that part in bold about a few around here. you were in tunis? i'll have to dig around and see if i have any pics of my trip to there back about 2001 and get them scanned. that was a neat place
