it crashing and burning has nothing to do with whether the canadian government is bleeding hearts or not (your words, not mine) but due to the illegals going to the hospital there. how will the government or the hospital make them pay? rather than looking foolish for blasting off into orbit and reading what you incorrectly assume is a negative remark towards canada, try pondering the situation for a bit

This is where I got it. I guess I don't see the humour in this. When 180 people show up in a small town and are given shelter and social services which are indeed a drain on the economy of a town and the country in general, who are not really refugees (from what little we have been told), it's just not funny to me.

Edit: Oh and most of them probably won't pay if they don't have the means - however what you said, implied to me, that when 180 people show up requesting services our poor depleted health care system just won't be able to cope - that being the 'understanding and sympathetic' (quote from Smoke for clarity) people that we are we will just allow people who MAY be trying to illegally immigrate drain our system because we are too stupid to figure it out.

I would point out that it isn't 'illegals crossing into Canada', but 'people entitled to benefits while LEGALLY seeking refugee status.' Slightly different problem.

While Canada may not want to, it's easy enough to change the law to say that people with pending refugee claims aren't entitled to public benefits.
