Anyone ever made chili with sirloin? Or do I need ground beef?

Ground beef is ok for Del Taco :P

Hey I used to like del taco when visiting LA :bonk:

Well we have some NY strips left, but would that be OK and how would I cut it?

I used to love their macho beef burrito but it kills my stomach now. Maybe I need to not use 10 packets of the black hot sauce :P

 Umm ya that would probably help. I think I'll save the NY strips and just go with the sirloin. Thanks everyone.

lotta people in here would get strung up in a tree in texas, using steak in chilli :o

jodo, i make chilli the following way - 1 pound coarse ground beef (not the hamburger stuff) it's about as big around as a pencil. add another pound of beef for chilli (basically meat trimmed off by the butcher from steaks).

add in your choice of beans, i use one can of black and one can of red kidney. add a can of wolf brand chilli - your choice of flavors on that one - i do that to thin the chilli a bit - you can forgo that and put in a small can of tomato sauce if you want. then dump in a package of mccormick's chilli powder, again your choice of mild or hot (hot is my choice :D)

I think the mix of ground beef with steak (like 1in cuts) is just perfect.

I started making Chili when I lived in Wyoming. I have my own, rather eclectic recipe....

1 pound coarse ground beef

2 cans pinto beans (or fresh, cooked Pintos)

2 cans tomato sauce (or 1 can sauce, one 12oz can of V8 veggie juice)

1/4 can of water (use tomato sauce can - leave out if using V8)

1 can stewed tomatoes - cut up; cubed, rather than diced.

1 small can diced green chiles

1 small can diced jalapeños

"Some" Cumin (I measure nothing, usually)

Tapatio, or other Mexican hot sauce. To taste.

A few good shakes of Chugwater Chili powder - a Wyoming staple. ( http://www.chugwaterchili.com/ )

Simmer on the stove for an hour or so.

Sometimes I add other bits to that. That's the normal base, though.

I've made it with Sirloin, tofu, chicken, and soy-beef crumbles before. Ground beef tastes best, though.

OK my chili came out pretty well :)

I used 2 pounds of sirloin

1 can tomato sauce

1 can tomato paste

3 tablespoons chili powder

1 tablespoon habanero tabasco

1/3 chopped onion

I poured just a drizzle of EVOO in the crockpot and softened the onions for about 20 minutes. Next, I browned the sirloin over the stove and then I transferred it to the crock pot. I then added the tomato ingredients and a half cup of water and I let it cook from about 10 am this morning until about 2:30pm.

I baked some potatoes and served the chili over the potato with cheddar cheese and sour cream.

It was sooo good. My husband said baby, where did you buy this from because we have to get more of this :bonk:

Chili originated as prison food as a way to cover up the taste of rancid meat.

LOL, that's why I wouldn't waste a good steak in it. That's what I make when there's nothing else in the house. No offense to the chili lovers....I'm sure it's just that I've never had "real" chili.
