I was looking at the timelines and it shows that someone who applied for their K-1 in July has already received it. Did they fill out the timeline wrong, or is this real? I applied in May at the same (Vermont) service center, and still haven't received mine. I know I need to be patient, but its just strange that someone would get theirs in 65 days. Especially from Iraq (no offense), since it would seem they would need more background checks.

Any thoughts or reasons?

I understand your frustration but I don't think what you have observed should cause anyone to be upset. The petitions are for the most part processed in the order that they are received but there will occassionally be petitions that get fast tracked.

Cuba gets special handling. I don't know why but I assume that some politicians got them designated as being worthy of expedited processing. There are only a few Cuban petitions so it does not have any significant impact on anyone's processing time.

The Iraq petitioner requested assistance from their elected representative. Apparently they received it and I am glad they did. They are both in Iraq and need to stay alive which might not be the easiest thing to do if the wrong people become aware that the beneficiary is engaged to an American. The faster the process goes for them the better. The beneficiary also needs to get to Syria for the interview and the border may be closed or will be closed to Iraqis. Their situation is potentially very difficult.

You might also sometimes see a petition that is processed with a military expedite. I don't know exactly how one qualifies for that but I can think of several scenarios where it is warranted.

Good luck with your journey. Hopefully VSC will finish processing the May petitions soon.

I wasn't trying to be offensive, or sound like I am being impatient. I basically just wanted some reasons, so thanks for the response. Also, my comments above were intended as somewhat of jokes, so hopefully those didn't come out wrong either.

No worries. :)

In general, the adjudication process at the service centers has several steps. At each step, the time between steps can vary based on various criteria. There's just no easy answer.

Be careful of coincidental correlation. We tend to do that when searching for easy answers.

If you're looking for something to occupy your time, just google "coincidental correlation" the most common logical fallacy we humans engage in. Or, if you prefer, "Post hoc ergo propter hoc".

You could have a slower adjudicator, yours might not be as simple as theirs. there are no REAL reasons why some get approved faster than others.

Some people get approved faster than others, somebody that used to work for the USCIS posted on here a while ago he said "one of the reason some are approved faster than others is some people get extra checks and some dont"

I got my approval I think in like 72 days or something like that.

I know that one of those approvals actually submitted in April or May but never received their NOA1. They re-requested it and got the hard copy in July and used July as their NOA1 date. This made the approval time a bit misleading.

22nd March 2010 - Application received by CSC
