Hi! My husband's online USCIS portfolio says that his employent authorization is now approved.

Can we go to the SSA office and remove the "not authorized to work unless authorized by DHS" based on a printout from the USCIS webpage?

OR do we wait until he recieves his work permit in the mail?

Curious, would we then need to notify SSA again when he gets permanent residency?

Greetings!

YES, he needed to bring the physical EAD card inorder for them to update the status of the SS card. And once the green card arrives ,you have to go back again and ask them to change the status.

Goodluck,

Griffin

This is incorrect.

Your husband will have to wait until he gets his green card before SSA will remove the "Work with DHS Authorization Only" tag on his SS card. The EAD is the work authorization that the SS card is currently referring to. Once your husband receives his GC, he no longer needs to apply for work authorization as it comes automatically with his being a legal permanent resident.

Eau, Griffin was not incorrect. Reese has a 'NOT AUTHORIZED FOR WORK' SSN card at the moment so they do need to return to get a new "authorized" ssn then return once again after they get the GC to get all restrictions removed.

Congrats on your EAD approval Reese.

That's what the OP said.

If the card had said "Not Authorized for Work" only, then yes, they should have it replaced.

Perhaps the OP can clarify what kind of SS card her husband has on hand right now.

I agree with eau explain.

According to the OPs timeline, her husband entered on a K1 visa, which means his SS card should have the demarkation "Work with DHS Authorization Only". This means that a potential employer will want to see not only his SS card, but also his EAD.

That note can only be removed once her husband has his green card, when her husband is no longer required to produce the EAD to an employer, and can instead show his green card..

Oh sorry I guess I read this part wrong "Can we go to the SSA office and remove the "not authorized to work unless authorized by DHS" based on a printout from the USCIS webpage?"
