Interview in Montreal

Hi all,

I just got back from Montreal on September 14th, after interview on the 13th. I brought the bulky xray with my medical attached to it. DO NOT PACK any documents in your luggage that you are checking. I took my interivew clothes, toiletries (in plastic bag) and all my documents in my carry on. They only wanted the biographic page and any amendments. I had an F-1 student visa and never made a copy of it. I thought they would figure that out for themselves. They weren't interested in the xray. I had photocopies of everything, just in case. The only thing they asked for was a notarized consent to immigrate from my ex.

Lined up at the door at 7:30am, 4th in line. Approximately 7:40am they started the screening process. I had my 4 year old son with me and they did allow me to bring in 3 small toys to keep him from going bonkers. Since, I was getting an immigrant visa, they took me and another guy upstairs first. I was a family preference one, unmarried sons and daughters of US citizens. There is a bit of going to the window and then sitting down. We were through the fingerprinting and handing documents over by about 8:15 am. At approximately 9:05, they called us in. Very nice guy, signed the DS-230 part II, did the oath. Asked questions about my sponsor, me and what job occupation will I pursue, son was going berserkers in the background, but I never lost my focus. Interview lasted maybe 10 minutes at the most.

He said congratulations you are entitled to an immigrant visa. Here is a pamphlet on some important things like paying your taxes.

Visa arrived in the mail on Thursday the 20th. I live in Abbotsford, BC, so it took probably a little longer. But, they hadn't done it until the 17th.

Stayed at the Centre Ville, room 1001 was nice.

Today, we will be doing our first crossing at the POE in either Sumas, Washington or Blaine. I haven't quite decided which is the better of the two.

This forum has been extremely helpful in our journey.

Good luck to all,

Karen and son.

P.s. our case was completed on June 7, 2007. Phone the (603) 334-0700 NVC after the 17th of the month. If I hadn't called I would have had 10 days to book flight, take medical, and make hotel arrangements.
