I made basbousa and baklawa last weekend. I'm making konafa (Egyptian style) this weekend. I'm making mine with nuts but the cream filled one in Monnik's pic looks awesome! I'm gonna have to find a recipe for that one. I may even try ataif this weekend, too.

I have a tip for you for the atayif. Whatever recipe you use for the dough, make it the blender. It comes out lighter and fluffier.

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

my stomach is killing me today. I think I have acid reflux and it wakes me up at night but I never had it before fasting. Does anyone have this effect of fasting? I go to bed about 2 hours after I eat and I make sure that I only drink between the meal and bedtime. I even made a makeshift elevated bed by piling pillows just so so that my upper half of my body is inclined but STILL I wake up with this acidy feeling in my throat in the middle of the night. I'm sick of it!!!!!!

My husband explained to me fasting is starving your body. When you're having the same amount of daily activity as when you were eatting normal then the body turns on itself and burns itself internally to get the energy it needs . When the body turns on itself it becomes highly acidic. One recommendation is avoid fatty, salty, fried, citrus, and sweet foods and eat natural soft palette bland foods and also drink plenty of fluids. That is difficult to do when fasting huh? LOL

Other recommendations TUMS, Milk of Magnisum, and Prilosec OTC for the more severe. It's long lasting effects ward of the acidity.

I think the indigestion also comes from stuffing yourself silly. I have noticed that many members are having very elaborate meals during ramadan which may something your body is not used to. Especially the richer foods. IMO it would be better to do your fast, and have what you would normally eat at night.

That is what I thought too at first so the past couple of night's I'll have a bowl of soup then stop. Then an hour later I"ll have a sandwich or something and stop. Then after about a half hour I'll have some cookies or something sweet. All the while though I"m drinking about a total gallon of liquid. Aside from the liquid that's about what I'd eat on a normal dinner and I never have had this problem before. I do notice it's worse during Ramadan if I have any tomato based foods like spaghetti and sauce so that's out until after the month is done.

I even wait a couple of hours before going to bed and it still wakes me up. I don't know maybe I"m developing a type of reflux. I also have asthma and curiously I have to use my inhaler now right after I eat.
