Hey guys,

I am a bit confused and hope that you can help me out.

Me and my husband have sent our visa application to the Nebraska Service Center about two weeks ago. We know that they have received it, havent heard from them yet though.

Now my question:

Will they contact us? Send us an email and let us know whats going on and where we are in the process?

Or do I have to call them or check somewhere about whats going on?

I dont know what to do next... please be so kind and let me know!

THANKS A LOT!!!!!!!!

You should receive a Notice of Action 1 in the mail one for your I-129 and another for your I-130 telling you when they received your petitions and it will also have a receipt numbers in which you can sign up and log into the U.S Citizen and Immigration website and it will tell you whenever your cases has been transfered or touched. Here is the website. https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp

As an extra piece of information. When USCIS cash your cheque or money order, they will write the case number on the back on the cashed item. Once it's cashed you can then ask your bank or the money order company to give you a copy of it and, voila, you have your case number :) It can be a lot quicker and saves worrying while you're waiting for an NOA1 to come through in the mail :)

You probably sent a petition to the service center. If you sent a visa application, you jumped the gun. The relative sends a visa application to a Consulate or NVC after a petition is approved.

Nebraska isn't processing spouse or fiance visas anymore, so you'll get a notice of action (receipt) from California or Vermont after your petition gets there. You can see if they cashed your check. On the back there will be a number starting with EAC or WAC. EAC is Vermont. WAC is California.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
