i dont think this case will be right until they also accuse the white kids who hung the nooses as a hate crime, and arrest the men (they were not kids, they were grown men) who attacked one of the suspects..

I haven't read this entire thread.

However, knowing that this happened in a rural community in the South, knowing that this happened in a community that had (even if it's informal) a tree for white kids, knowing that a black kid felt the need to ask for permission to sit under said tree, knowing that nooses were hung in the aftermath of their request, knowing all well the use of nooses to intimidate black folk in the deep south at one point in time, knowing that the attempted murder weapon was a sneaker....

I am inclined to believe that Jesse Jackson is right.

So, attempted murder is defined by the weapon used? If they beat him to within an inch of his life with their fists or bare feet, would that be a still lesser crime, since it was done without weapons??

Yes, the nooses are disgusting and should be considered a hate crime, but they still were not as serious as actually beating the cr@p out of someone. Hardly equivalent crimes.

A community in the deep south with a known race problem. Am I likely to believe what the white people from that community have to say? No. I may be proven wrong but that's my bias as of today.

while the kids may have called it the white tree, a chainsaw could have solved this entire problem.

but i do wonder if we'd have the same issues if there was only a black tree......

there was never such thing as a separate but equal for black people.. but anyway, that argument of 'what if it had been a black only trees'.. you know racism to whites is not as common as the other way.. doesn't even happen as much, and it happened to black folks for decades.. so i don't think white people can play the victim card..

So let me get this straight. People are not protesting against the violence inflicted by the six towards one guy but because they believe they are being unfairly punished..

It would be a slam dunk 'hate crime' if 6 whites beat-up one black.

Very true!

The six Black students beating up on the one White student also appears to be a hate crime IMO. Although the current news reports indicate the "hate crime" committed by the six Black youth was not related to the nooses hung from the tree at the school. I wouldn't hang my hat on that statement or notion. The violence appears to be steamed from the hate crime committed by the White students that hung nooses from the tree IMO. Who, by the way, have only been suspended from school with no current charges pending for their hate crime. We are in the first post segregation generation and hopefully in the next generations to come, we'll get further from the ignorance and violence that stems from our historical struggles with one another. One can only hope... In the meantime, the hate crime committed by the White students should be brought to justice and those six Black students need to be charged accordingly for their hate and battery crimes. Effective immediately, they should all be expelled from school.

Cheers!!!

Sheriff Uling

Right now as it stands, or at least in this case it appears that Justice is NOT color blind.

Until the White students are at the least expelled from school and hate crime charges are brought up for hanging nooses from the tree, in addition to the six Black students also having hate crimes added to their charges and expulsion from school, I'd have to kindly and quietly disagree...

My thought on the nose is that racism is not illegal in America. If it ever becomes illegal, only then would I back charging those for hanging up a noose.

Though if racism was illegal, there would be a lot of people on 'both' sides of the fence up for fines and charges.

racism is not illegal? LOL.. have you ever read the labor laws? racism is illegal in America.. burning a cross is illegal, the nooses probly should be considered a hate sign too..

He must not live in the same America that I do... Oh, my bad! He must live in the south where racism still breaths and lives openly amongst some communities that tolerate it's poison. Hello!!! Back to topic: A white tree... I am betting that if we dig a little deeper, somebody of the faculty knew about this and should probably be fired and six Black students beating down one White kid as an aftermath of racism. Come on, it's all unnecessary and heartbreaking. I hope the student that was a casualty/victim of the poison that is racism is OK.

White people do not play the victim card. What happens to white people is that they eventually get sick of others stepping on their toes and do punch back leading to stuff like the Cronulla riot in Sydney.

What also cracks me up is seeing people hating the south. lol Any of those geniuses ever ask themselves, if it is so bad there why do the majority of black Americans continue to live there?? Move to the North or West.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
