It seems like everyone is missing the point....these teens are being charged as adults. What they did was very wrong...but should they be charged as an adult? I am sure someone on VJ has a teen....how would you feel if your teen was being charged as an adult...for a incident like this? Having your son/dauther's life taken away from them over a fight.....it was wrong...very wrong of them...but they should be going to juvie court. The jury was very very wrong to charge these teens for a CRIME....they did not commit any crime...a shoe is not a weapon!!!!!! The jury should have not been all white......please open your eyes.

It took the jurors 3 hrs to sentence ...a 16 yr old ...he faces up to a maxium of 22 years in prison. Is it proper for a school to have a "white tree" on its premises? Is it right for the hanging of the noose's on the school's property? Do you believe in lynching??? Is it right that out of the 50 potential jurors....all were white. Hopefully you will see the wrong...but then again...I highly doubt it!!!!! Why isn't any legal action taking place for any of these scanario's???? This could have been handled better...you would not think any of this would go on at a place of education!!!!!

I would agree w/ the charges if the boy would of had suffered some long term medical results....but thankfully he hasn't......there are alot of guilty people in Jena and it is not just the Jena 6.

Well it isn't exactly BS - there does seem to be some indication of an institutional racial bias in how the case was prosecuted, as well as an established background of racial tension that seems to have been either ignored or swept under the carpet.

I have been against the law of trying kids as adult's ever since it was first suggested.

When it was first enacted, prosecutor's said, Ohh we only intend to charge the worst of the worst kids as adults.

NOT!!!

Now they charge almost every kid they can as adult.

It was and still is a screwed up law.

Alot of racial tension had esculated.....on the school property...and it was not taken seriously. How can 3 white kids hang 3 noose's on a tree...that was well known...as the White Tree...and just get a 3 day suspension...and it not be looked at as a hate crime...it happened the day after afew black teens sat under it!!!!

Think about it....this all esculated after the noose incident.....which is a hate crime! Why is that form of hate crime not recognized??? I am sure that the Jena 6 are not racist kids.....unfortunately, I do not have documentation of that. It is not right to judge people....remember that....believe what you want....enough said on this end. It is sad when a noosing incident is not looked at as a hate crime or handled as a hate crime. All of this could have truly been avoided!!!

For me, personally, I lost respect for a lot of people's causes when they protested to have OJ freed. For some it was all about freeing one of their own rather than punishing a murder. That is where I draw the line. Even if my own father was OJ, I would have wanted him to serve time for doing the crime. Black, white Green purple or whatever the ###### he looked liked..
