I got approval this week, finally. Got the email from CRIS that approval notice was sent on March 6, 2008. It all started when I called them using RFE trick on Feb 29 after my case was well past the 6-months mark. After that I got several touches then the approval.

Here's the RFE Trick to call USCIS customer service number: 1-800-375-5283 Prompts 1-2-2-4(RFE prompt)-2-1-enter case #, 1(to verify), 1.

What did you say exactly when you called USCIS?

Well, every case is different but here is what I did. After I reached the operator I tried to be nice and answered her without interrupting, even included "yes, ma'am" in every confirmation. She pulled up my case on her screen. Now, it's time for throwing questions and concerns at her.

I told her my case is well over 6 months so "what's the status on it?" She said the standard reply: case received and pending, blah, blah, blah. I explained to her that I can easily find out the same thing online at uscis website without calling her. The rep probably has taken thousands of calls and encountered every possible situations. So explain to her how my wife and I miss each other so much wouldn't do any good. Screaming at her would do me no good. I knew the earlier I tell her what I would like my end result to be, the earlier I can get my matter resolved. All I want to know is what is CSC doing with my case? It's that simple. I didn't back down unless she did something else other than looking at her screen.

She told me to wait and put me on hold. When she came back, she told me my case was currently processing. Now, I'm not saying due to my call using the RFE trick that they took the action to start processing my case. Nevertheless, it's good to find out the real status of my case vs the standard "pending" status. Later that night on Feb 29th, I saw my very first touch. After that, more touches were coming until the approval on Mar 6th.

I didn't even have to resort to use my make-up RFE scenario . Since this is RFE line, I tried to set up a RFE scenario that fit my situation in case I need to bring it up. In my case, it is my marriage certificate. I translated the certificate on my own without using any translating nor notarized service. For a while I was worry that I might receive RFE asking for a notorazed translation of our marriage certificate using a third party. Now, we know for sure that you CAN translate the marriage certificate on your own without getting RFE.

Congrats! I got the same approval news today too (though my actually approval date was Feb15). Hope everyone else gets some good news also shortly.
