Hi, I was afraid of needles too but I conquered my fear. It's mind over matter. I didn't think about shots before I had the medical and when I was already there waiting for my shots and had people in front of me having their shots, I didn't look at them. When it was my turn, I looked away so I wont see the needles lol. I learned it wasn't painful after all! I had 2 shots: MMR and varicella (because I didnt have chickenpox yet) and blood test. So total of 3 poking of needles.

Just tell her to stop thinking about it too much coz it will only make her nervous and it doesn't really hurt!

it depends on how many shots she needed, I got one its MMR. and I hate needles too! I don't think if they draw blood now at SLEC...

Anyways, she should be ready then since drawing blood was still be in the future once she get pregnant! :)

I mean total of 3 poking of needles: 1 blood test, 1 MMR, 1 varicella (for those who havent had chickenpox). I was also told that I need a 2nd dose after 2 months by my private doctor for the varicella.

Jennilyn is scared about her medical & the shots. she hates needles. roughly how many shots is she going to get & do they draw blood?

There's one blood extraction. Don't worry their med techs (phlebotomies) are good and you can't hardly feel the needle.

The number of vaccine shots are age-appropriate, depends on your immunization history and if you had the disease before, and depends on the serologic (blood) exam.

The Vaccines to Complete for ADULTS (Age 19 years or older):

  1. TD (Primary series) - 3 doses (4-8 weeks apart) and a booster dose every 10 years. But since this is not availbale and not routinely given in the Philippines, applicant will have to get this in the US.
  2. Hepatitis B - 3 doses (2nd dose- 4-8 weeks after the 1st dose and 3rd dose after 4-6 months)
  3. MMR - 2 doses (depends on age/child-bearing age and given 4-8 weeks apart
  4. Varicella - 2 doses (4-8 weeks apart)
  5. Pneumococcal - 2 doses (for those 65 years and above)
  6. Influenza - yearly for those 50 years and above

If you had chickenpox before, make sure you can show the panel physician your "pock marks" (scar) otherwise they will still give you the vaccine shot. Just tell her not to look at the needle and to try to relax so it will be easier for her and for the one administering the shots and the blood extraction. Good Luck!

Yes for the vaccinnes that need 2nd dose are also required. I was told that I can have the varicella shot here in the Phils by my private doctor or in Us, but since I'm still in the Phils., I'll have it done here. Also for TD shot, it's not available here, so we'll have it done in US. Just make sure for the 2nd dose (if she needs), there should be certification/letter by the doctor.
