I'm a complete worrywart, and I would appreciate advice from people who have been through this.

We got married in my country this summer, and will be starting the k-3 process shortly. There are a few questions that keep nagging at me --

1. I was legally in the US for many years. I married and divorced there, he was not a US citizen either. I have a valid US divorce. I never legalized those papers with my country because the marriage turned sour very quickly, so the only marriage my country officially knows about is my current one (so only the data pertaining to my current marriage are in my birth certificate). I do have all the valid US divorce papers, of course, and of course I will discuss my divorce when I file. The two marriages never overlapped. Does any of this sound potentially problematic?

2. Hubby and I met online. Many people do these days, but does it cast any doubt on your relationship? We will have plenty of proof that our marriage is for real.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and I'd appreciate any comments.

1. You will need your divorce decree from your first marriage. Since you divorced in the US, and have the docs, you are fine. Nothing to worry about, just provide the docs, answer any questions at the interview about the first marriage if it comes up.

2. Lots of people meet online. You will be ok as long as you have proof of a bonafide relationship.

Cheers

As you have the US documents showing the first marriage and divorce, it should be perfectly fine. If they question why only the new marriage is on your birth certificate, you can just explain that the first one wasn't registered officially in your country. I don't think they will ask though...

It doesn't matter that you met online as long as it was not arranged through a marriage broker service. If you just met on a forum or a chatroom, totally no big deal. The important thing is that you've met in person and can show a bonafide relationship. :)

Thank you both for such quick replies. :)

We met on Match.com while we were both living in the US. I realize people have different opinions on whether Match is exempt from the IMBRA or not, but I think I'll just attach a sheet of explanation with that question just to be safe.

Hard to get married without meeting in person. ;) Thats more important for K1s. But I guess there are proxy weddings.

I was saying that to reassure her. As in, "Had a bad day? The important thing is that it's over now." :) Of course they've met in person and she stated that they have lots of proof of their relationship. So I was saying that was more important than how they met.
