I'm not sure what Jackson would like Obama to say. I think this was an appropriate statement from Obama:

"When nooses are being hung in high schools in the 21st century, it's a tragedy. It shows that we still have a lot of work to do as a nation to heal our racial tensions. This isn't just Jena's problem; it's America's problem."

"There are a number of signs that the system is not working in this case. It's a problem when criminal charges are brought against some students for fighting, but not others. It's a problem when a public defender doesn't call any witnesses. And it's a problem when a prosecutor decides to try teenagers as adults for a school fight, a charge that could leave them in jail for the majority of their lives. That is why I join my colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus in calling on the judge to consider all the relevant factors and calling on the District Attorney to drop the excessive charges brought in this case. And I, along with other members of the CBC, will continue to monitor this case closely."

JENA, La. - The Rev. Al Sharpton met with a jailed black teenager whose arrest in the beating of a white classmate could draw thousands of protesters to this tiny town Thursday.

Bell and four others originally faced trial as adults on attempted second-degree murder charges in connection with a December attack that left white classmate Justin Barker bloodied and unconscious. Another teen was booked as a juvenile and charges have not been make public.

Sharpton and other critics accuse local prosecutors of being disproportionately harsh on black youths in Jena, where racial tensions have been high since three nooses were found in a tree on the high school campus a few months before Barker was beaten. Three white students were briefly suspended over the incident but no charges were filed.

Marchers, including Martin Luther King III and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, will pass a tree stump at Jena High School — all that's left of the tree where the nooses had been hung.

The tree had been a gathering spot for white students. The nooses were found after a black student asked school officials if blacks could sit there too.

Interracial fights reportedly followed, including the December school yard attack on Barker, who was not one of the students suspended over the nooses. During the resulting uproar, local authorities had the tree cut down.

The Obama campaign just forwarded us a statement from Jesse Jackson, who reiterated his support for Obama, despite being quoted by the Columbia State saying that Obama is "acting like he's white" for not speaking more forcefully regarding the racial incident in Jena, LA.

"I reaffirm my commitment to vote for Sen. Barack Obama," Jackson says in the statement. "He has remarkably transcended race, however the impact of Katrina and Jena makes America's unresolved moral dilemma of race unavoidable. I think Jena is another defining moment of the issue of race and the criminal justice system. This issue requires direct and bold leadership. I commend Sen. Obama for speaking out and demanding fairness on this defining issue. Any attempt to dilute my support for Sen. Obama will not succeed."

nothing out of his mouth is useful in my opinion

he prolly watches the news and prays to see a black man get beat up by a white man so he can fly to their side and yell race, yet this was a white kid beat up by 5 black boys and hes defending them. i guess he sees nothing wrong with violence on white ppl . go figure huh
