Yeah - It sounds a bit sad but I kinda envy the people who have (sensibly) not booked a wedding - unfortunately we knew no better and booked in April... I don't regret it because it is going to be beautiful but it will/would be kinda nice to just wait out the visa process knowing that we don't have to worry about getting the visa by any specific date...

I think because we wanted a quite traditional wedding (I wanted to do it all properly short of the church as we aren't really religious) It has been nice to plan things how we want them in plenty of time :) The wedding planner has certainly helped!!!

We very nearly booked December 8th... I am so glad that we didn't now though. I really can't see me being there for Christmas which I am absolutely gutted about.

But, we have decided that we are going to have a really small wedding when I get there. Just me, Chris and his 2 kids and then we are going to have the whole shebbang in June :D We have been in touch with the minister and he is quite happy to do both.

I can't really see any other way around it either.... It will be near impossible to plan a wedding in 3 months and there is no way that I can do it from here!

OK, here is my rant and those who know me know its over due. Well I call today and USCIS puts me on hold then comes back and tells me that CSC is in only evaluating those in April. Well I know thats a lie just by watching the VJ website approvals among other websites I monitor. My question was an integrity check so I played dumb. (There have been a few approvals in June already on VJ.) Then she says that it could be a couple more months before our case is sent to an officer for review without even a sence of remorse. Then she says some visa's have been under review since 2003 so waitng 6 to 8 months is a good thing. Its sounded like she was someone who worked at a concentration camp in Germany and were decensitised to the pain of others around them. This is the true face of our USCIS and embassy employees and I am devestated that our government that represents us as Americans has allowed such a horrible experience happen to the ones we (legitimate citizens) want to marry (legaly) and bring to our home in the US. I have Canadian friends who have married foriegners who got married and had their wives with them in 4 months. There is no fiance visa, no gyno exam for her, no financial evaluation, its a much more humane and realistic process there. Our processes is about federal government control of everything. If there was not so many government entitlements for being married there may not be so much fraud. We might as well have kept a monarchy. In Canada there is no need for a fiance visa. You bring home the one you love and thats it. No games. There is no real advantage to being an American citizen any longer with the federal government so out of control of itself. To many liberal government handouts has fueled this abuse. This process is such a small symptom of the abortion of our modern government. I say this as a blue blooded American USAF veteran and to see this process be so mired in perverse inefficiency is a total embarrassment. The government talks like it is something of a protector humane values but show its own citizens or military member and families no respect. No wonder the world hates us. The government talks out of both sides of its mouth, democrats and republicans. The polititians and immigration emplyees just want to protect their own jobs and way of life and have no genuine respect for those the citizens they serve. If you listen to the presidential candidate today they over promise to get votes and never deliver. If I was not a single father stuck with only 50% custody, I would be in Brasil living there. The USA is no longer what it was so sacrifised to be thanks to the abusers of freedom and the law makers (lawyers) that protect them. I am not an Opra fan but I must say that I will be writing to her like thousands of others regarding this K1 and K3 process. Dont waste your time write to your useless congressman for help. Perhaps Opra can bring to light this deep dark dirty little abusive secret the government has treating their own citizens in such a inhumane way. Lets take the bullet for those who are to later suffer through this and perpaps we can start the ball rolling to end this stupidity for them. cb

No NOA1, touches, or progress given

NOA2 approved Oct 17

NOA2 card copy in mail Oct 20 (Surprise to us)

Package sent from USCIS to NVC Nov 7. (called USCIS to get this)

Nov 15, I got email at 6:57pm that our package was sent to Rio from NVC.

DON"T WAIT FOR THEM TO SEND ANYTHING, CALL AND MAKE SURE THEY GOT IT.

IF THEY DO, GO AHEAD AND SEND IN ds230,ds2001, the pics, and copy of passport

USE SEDEX AND GET THE TRACKING NUMBER.

Interview Set: Jan 29. Found this out on the embassy website under VISA's. It shows a list of visa types including K1 and shows the interview dates.

Visa granted but they mailed it using their own package delivery service. Took a week. Have money when you go to the appointment. They may also make you go and get more photos taken if they dont like the pics you bring. Just relax and dress wark because they keep the place really cold. Make sure your financials mmet the criteria or they will eat you alive.

MARRIED March 22. Sent in $1,010 in fees to Chicago to get change of status, apply for advanced parole, and ability to work documentation. Things work faster now.

May 22'08: Biometrics appointment in Santa Barbara.
