Hello everyone

My IV bill is with Fedex in Saint Louis as we speak. Fedex isnt able to deliver my money order(USD$380) package and their reason is that they can't deliver to PO box address. Could have told us when they took our mail but sigh.. Anyhow, I would like to furnish Fedex with an address.

The address I used was given in the package, ie:

NVC

Saint Louis PO Box 790136

Zip code: 63179-0136

USA

Is this correct?

Hi jewel,

Looks right. You won't be able to furnish Fedex with an address as, like you mentioned, they won't deliver to a P.O. Box and the P.O. Box is the only address to send the fee to.

You would be better off sending it USPS

I spoke with NVC. The operator said she has never come across this problem before and insisted that the address I used was correct. Told me to speak with Fedex or wait for the parcel to be returned to me. Argh..

The fedex tracking gal said that she'l contact the fedex in the US when the office opens in the morning and get them to call NVC(she wanted the NVC number so i gave her the NVC operator assistance number) I doubt it will work. Heard from her that they may be/might already have sent the parcel to another address, 1005 Convention Centre, St louis MO. I screamed when I heard this! This is crazy.

So.. I guess the lesson to learn here is to use the envelope given when mailing stuff? (even when mailing important documents???) I am worried.

All else is fine, except that you can't use Fedex OR UPS you can only use USPS. The reason for this is that there's a federal law stating that only the USPS can deliver American mail, thus it's illegal for Fedex or UPS to deliver mail into a US P.O. Box. Therefore what Fedex and UPS do, is that they drop the packet into the doorsteps instead. The NVC or the billing center in St. Louis, Missouri, won't pick up things on their doorsteps, they will only empty their mailbox. Long story short: you have to use USPS, there are no other alternatives :(.

Hi Jewel,

The envelope that NVC would have sent you would have had the St. Louis P.O. box number on it. It's not the address that is wrong.

You mentioned that Fedex said they would not ship to the P.O. box, so that is what my reply was based on.

Good luck, i'm sure you will get it sorted out.

Edit: What Stabu is saying is correct.

Private carriers cannot deliver to a P.O. Box, because the post office requires proper U.S. postage to put it in there!

The P.O. Box in St. Louis is a lockbox. Usually, FedEx and UPS send a postcard to the P.O. Box asking for someone to call them to arrange delivery to a non-P.O. Box address. Whoever is running the lockbox operation for NVC should be handling this as exception processing. They will either give FexEx a physical address where they process the mail received, or tell FedEx to return the item.

If FedEx does ultimately deliver it, would be very interested to know where and to whom (the contractor)!

Ok, I understand the mess now. I will first try to calm down and wait patiently for Fedex to get back to me. If they are still not able to mail it, I think I will request for them to send it to my mother-in-law(ie if they can do this) in the US and ask her to mail it with USPS. The last option is for them to mail it back here to me and for me to send it again to the US. Sigh.. This is definitely setting me back a week or two. Lesson to be learned. Wished all this could be done with a credit card.

He Jewel,

It looks like fedex can do this:

General Questions

Is it possible to reroute an international FedEx Express package in transit or correct an address?

Yes, you can reroute an international shipment (or change an address) if it's within the same country as the original destination address. To initiate a reroute or address change, please call International Customer Service at 1.800.247.4747.

If you are unable to use the 1-800 number perhaps you can just call back the number you contacted them on earlier and ask for the envelope to be rerouted to your Mother in Law. Let us know how it turns out.

Yes I will probably get them to reroute the package to my mother in law in the US. Will keep you all posted.

So everyone mailed the payment using USPS and in the little envelope they provided?

Thank you all so much for the replies.

We used USPS, but not the little envelope.

We used Priority envelopes.

I never used FedEx nor UPS to mail any of my stuff for the same reasons Stabu mentioned. The best way for me was using Priority Mail, Next Day delivery with the USPS. A bit pricey but very secure.

Well everyone, just to update you all on the outcome of the package delivery. Fedex insisted that they have delivered my package to the 'right' address. Its 1005 Convention Plaza St. Louis 63101. This is all despite me telling them I wanted to reroute the package. They said this is where all mails to NVC will go to. I am still calling them to retrieve my package. Don't know how this will turn out.

Well, that Convention Plaza address is the Dept. of State, however it is the address they give to send in your visa waiver.

Hopefully it will make its way to the correct department.
