Hi all!

I'm filing for my wife's AOS and need help with name issue. We went to SSA office and filed an application for SSN. The agent told us the SSN card would be in her I-94 name and not the new name we wanted (married name). The agent said only after the green card would they change it. my problem is that now I'm completing the forms and don't know if what name to use. I-485 & I-765 & I-693 donot have a place to list other names. Only the G-325A has a place to list other name used.

what should I do? Should I just stick with her name on I-94 and avoid the whole mess? My wife and I would like to change the name.

thank you all!

p.s. is it possible to change the middle name as well or only the last name?

once we got married, we took the marriage certificate to the Social security office and got her ss card in her new married name. They didn't have any problem with that, as long as you get there before the I-94 expires, otherwise you will need to wait until you receive the green card (SS office wants to see proof of legal status/residency). All papers I filed for status (I-485, etc..) I used her new married name. I never mentioned other names. If they don't ask for "other names" then don't list them, if they ask on the Bio G-325 you could list the maiden name as is shown on the SS card... I don't think it is a big deal, I used the new married name for everything I could and then go back and change the SS card like the agent said.. Thats my two cents

When I applied for my SSN card they told me to apply with my pre married name so that immigration would recognize it .. and that once I received the card to just come down with my marriage certificate to change it.

We used Claudeth's married name on the AOS forms. Once we received her EAD we were able to change her name on the social security card

Use her married name since it's the one she will be using officially (and on paper as soon as SS lets her).

We had the same issue. You have to wait for your EAD (not the GC) and then they'll issue it in the right name. It's stupid, but there is nothing that can be done about it.

I used my married name on my AOS and EAD application and as well as my SSN and my Drivers license and i dont have a problem with it. BTW, I got my SSN and DL after i got my GC.
