OK here is the deal.

My g'ma (we really call her GG great grandma for my girls) had a heart attack last nite. She is being hospitalized 60 miles from me...but in Canada. She is 89 and her chances of recovering before I can re-enter Canada is not likely.

Not sure if it's the service center you contact or your local INS office at all. I do know they used to have immediate (or close to) AP for emergencies and such. I think all you would need to do is show proof of the emergency.

I am pretty sure they still do the emergency AP's, I just don't really know who you get it from. I'd make an INFOPASS apointment and find out from them. Or call the service center if you can reach them...

I don't recall, but I think jg_am and his wife had to get an INFOPASS appt and bring their documentation for an emergency AP. Definitely give the nearest office a call and see whether you can get a doctor's letter to bring to them.

My best thoughts to you, and good luck.

You won't be able to call the local district office directly, their phone numbers are unlisted. Get the official doctor's letter, make an INFOPASS appointment and we will all think good thoughts for you. :)

Thank you all for your kind replies.

I have checked into making the Infopass appt. but I live in Western ND and the closest place for my appt is St Paul, MN which is 10 or so hrs away. It would be for me and my twin daughters, which would be a grand total of almost 1000.00..sigh. Plus the travelling cost etc.

My grandma seems to be holding her own and my husband went to visit her this morning. He took drawings/cards/notes from my daughters (6 yo) and is stopping at a flower shop for me. Wish he could have stuck me in a toolbox...lol.

thanks again
