What a loser. The fool screamed like a girl..

In his defense, how does one "scream like a rugged manly man" when they're being shocked by a taser? ;)

The news is reporting this guy was a blogger seeking material for his blog.

Well... looks like he got some. Maybe not quite the material he was originally looking for, but he still got some, nonetheless. ;)

Its looking more and more like Rodney King lite.

OK, I get it, some call us Brits Poms and Police pigs.

Nice.

Regardless of the kid's antics, it didn't need 50,000 volts to remove him. End of.

I agree, but how many volts did he deserve? If the answer is none. Maybe an alternate handling should be expressed other than just the typical anti cop thing. Remember they have a job to do too.

This isn't unique either. An 11 year old was tasered in a middle-school earlier in the year as a "last resort"

YouTube:0OnV7e2eNbc

This is interesting - some of the footage afterwards.

YouTube:wXa6yj-A-mw

Key point of the first video..

  • The boy assaulteda 6 year old girl
  • Refused to cooperate with Police
  • Tasered once, then again after the boy tried to attach the girl a second time
I refuse to watch a video taken by a guy seeking his 15 minutes of fame. Why am I not surprised he is a blogger though.. And then you and Fancy_Pants give me ####### about generalizing.. lol

I know if my 6 year old girl was physically attacked by an 11 year old, I would snap his arm and every other large bone of his in half.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Neither seem justifiable uses of force IMO. One guy was tasered on the ground after having already been restrained by police. The other... well... is it really that implausible than an adult male can't find a way to restrain a 11-year old child (i.e. half his height and less than half his weight?) without resorting to the use of weapons?

I have to say I'm sceptical.

Which would net you a jail term for GBH.

As I said - is it really that implausible that an adult can't find other ways to restrain a child rather than resort to weapons or turning into a territorial mountain gorilla?

I think it would matter when someone caught this act taking place. For instance, if an individual saw an older male physically assaulting his young daughter, I seriously doubt very many (if any) juries would convict him for reacting in a harsh and violent manner.

However, if this same individual heard about the event at a later date from his daughter, tracked down the male who did it, and then delivered his own "brand of justice," I could definitely see legal problems occuring. The difference being between this example (and the one above) is that this one was premeditated -- where the father hunted down the man who assaulted his daughter -- whereas the former example was a "spur of the moment" thing.

i think the bottom line is that the kid was clearly not a threat to anyone in the room, and there was no reason to use excessive force...clear and present danger? i think not.

I dunno – I think most people would have a problem with an adult causing serious injury to a child, regardless of what they might have done to provoke the anger of the adult. As I said I find it hard to believe that a person could not restrain an 11-year old without using weapons or causing serious bodily harm.

Its not unlike what happens to people who attack burglars – for the most part you have the right to defend your home and family from attack, but when the burglar has 23 knife wounds - all in his back, that’s a bit beyond what some people might consider a ‘reasonable’ use of force.

I agree the taser was over the line, but I did watch the video and do not think the kid was acting right at all when he was asked to move on and stop hogging the mic.

First of all, Kerry is a senator and a former Presidential runner, he has to have security with him and I am sure the Univ has to take extra security measures when someone like that is on campus.

I do not think the cops were wrong by trying to take him out of the room. As I already said the taser went too far, but why was the kid flailing around after he was calmly asked to stop. What if he had a weapon and jumped on stage to attack Kerry?

Sorry but he wasn't just "asking questions"...it started that way and then turned into something else and he wouldn't give it up.

well sure, but changing the perp from an 11 year old boy to an 'older male' changes everything....
