The Aussie youth are MUCH better behaved, it's true

Your examples are irrational because first of all they are not college students and that was pretty much a riot. Second of all, you will find much more stupid Pom or American videos out there.

Hence the infamous reputation of British when abroad.

Correction. British football (soccer) fans.

hmmm

British 'world's worst tourists

Britons have been labelled the world's worst holidaymakers in a survey of tourist boards around the globe.

So what - they don't explain why people have that perception. Reputation has to come from somewhere - and the stories that I've seen make the news have invariably been about soccer hooligans or the friday night drinking / Ibiza crowd (i.e. Chavs).

That is a 2002 article. This has been discussed before but I don't have the time now to search for the current world's worst tourists. It's not Yanks or Brits tho.

I dunno - there is something to be said for the beer-swilling Chav crowd, and certainly in the main package resorts I can see that this would be a problem. There is a subset of British youth that considers going on holiday merely to fly somewhere hot and get "paralytic" on beer like they would at home on friday night.

Well, some places are really designed for a more hedonistic-style hol....like Ibiza...hardly gonna go to San An to knit a quilt and read Vonnegut

True enough. But those resorts are reactive to that sort of thing so are surely part of the problem. Places like Ibiza cater specifically to that crowd - cheap drinks, strip contests. What can go wrong? Clearly a lot...

That argument doesn't make any sense. Because there hasn't been a Columbine massacre in AUS (taking your word for that - though offhand I can think of several deranged serial killers including Chopper and the guy that the movie Wolf Creek was based on), that somehow makes "American liberals and their views look like fools"?

What does Australia being socialist (though IMO their politics is at least as nationalistic and right-wing as that of the US) have to do with anything?

Will you be saying next that Australia has no social problems to speak of whatsoever?

I wasn't the one who brought something irrelevant up to begin with. An irrelevant comment required a similar irrelevant response.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Of course they are...clearly the atmosphere is set for bullsh!t. Don't get me wrong...I loathe chavs  but ya can't blame em for acting that way when you put em in a condusive environment.

I'd say the lion's share of responsibility is on the hols maker.

I don't know what's more appalling - that you not only think that tasering someone at a public forum is justified or that you disapprove of his lack of manliness in not being able to take the pain - but that you use this as an indictment to make a generalisation against US college students which is really unjustified.

As I said - in another context I can see you being right on board with that "stripping, shaving and public humiliation" punishment meted out by the Chinese

I have now seen this incident.

Was the guy acting like a jerk? Probably.

Is tazering a good way to stop people from acting like jerks, especially when it's a question of wasting people's time with dumb questions and there is no immediate threat of violence or danger? No.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Who knows, maybe a pat on the shoulder and a offering of a cookie might have been better. Then again more voltage might have shut him up.

Mind you, why not? Let's just tazer anyone we deem offensive or disruptive to social order. Or maybe we should shave their heads and kick em?

Shoulder patting and cookies? Is that what you think the alternative was?

It was a joke
