Hi Guys,

I wanted to see if anyone had any comments or suggestions in regards to the Advance Parole documents and traveling outside of US using them. We got ours a few weeks ago, 2 exact copies, not sure how they are used yet. Could anyone share their experience if you had any problems using them while trying to board a plane back to USA, and if the Border People gave you any problems, and so on.

We were planning on traveling back home for the New Years, but I am afraid we would have problems on the way back, since I don't know if anyone except americans really know what that piece of paper is and are only looking at visas in the passports.

Thank you very much,

Mike.

I would make a guess you may have green-card by them.

But you wont have problems boarding or at the POE, you just show them the AP document or green-card to re-enter the country.

It looks like the FAQ is too old and no longer pertains to current AP documents, since they have changed since 2000. I was more interested of any problems or flawless POE encounters on the way back to US using the Advance Parole.

Thanks,

Mike.

I literally just returned on monday from travelling to the United Kingdom with an advanced parole as my entry papers. The visa in my passport was expired.

The airline folks at Glasgow airport had never seen the paperwork and had to call a supervisor who, in my opinion, had also never seen it but didnt want to look stupid in front of the staff. Took just a couple of extra minutes before they decided to let me travel and only gave me a customs form to fill out.

Flew to Philadelphia

Arrived at the immigration hall at Philadelphia and asked the person directing folks where to go whither I should join the non-citizen or citizen line. She didn't know and advised that I go through with my wife.

Immigration officer was very cool, knew the paperwork and was very professional, explaining that everything looked good but that I needed to go through the secondary screening so as to get the AP papers officially stamped.

Went to secondary screening and was asked to fill out a white I-94 form in front of them (don't know if this was simply because I didn't have it). Was asked almost no questions (except whither I thought the Eagles would win that night!) and the forms were stamped, signed and returned with my passport.

Entered the USA.

Hope this helps calm your mind because I know now that I was freaking out all the way over for no reason!

It really is no problem, the people at Virgin in Heathrow knew what AP was and asked to see it prior to getting our tickets.

Beside have to go to secondary inspection to get it stamped, there were no problems

I used my AP in February when I returned from a trip abroad through Newark airport. It was very easy and hassle-free. I filled out the white I-94 form on the plane and presented it to the officer along with my passport and parole documents. I went through the non-immigrant line. I also brought my NOAs (don't think I was asked for them, though, but liked to be on the safe side) and my marriage certificate, since my passport has my maiden name and all the immigration documents are issued in my married name. I had to go through the secondary processing, so I was walked to a back room by a pleasant woman officer. I had to wait about five minutes while my documents were reviewed and stamped. My passport was stamped as well. All in all, the whole thing took very little time, everyone I dealt with was friendly, and it was not at all intimidating. Have a nice trip!

I used my AP going through JFK. I got some extra questioning, but no real problems. Sent off to the secondary room, waited until they stamped what they needed to stamp and I was on my way.
