And my wife has a social #, does she have to wait to work for the AOS to be complteted? or can she start now?

thank you

Take a look at this: http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/display...um=19&pos=1

Your wife can't work without permission from the USCIS.

The non immigrant visa number can be found on her K-1 Visa attached to her passport, its written in red on the lower right portion.

You can file for SSN if her I-94 is not yet expired, if not you have to wait untill she receive her Green Card. You can file for EAD to get her Work Authorization.

She needs an EAD or GC, an SSN does not give an alien permission to work on its own.
