Ironically, those afraid of a social health care system, are afriad of loosing choice. But do you really have choice right now? You choose your employer sponsored plan, or you choose to pay much more for healthcare on your own, or you choose to have no health care.

If you are young and relatively healthy, it will probably cost less to buy insurance on your own than take an employer's plan. Group plans are more expensive, since they cover everyone at the same price (they attract older, sicker people). Employers subsidize less and less of their plans every year.

When I ran my own company (until recently), I had a choice of dozens of plans. I paid less than I do now as an employee, where I have little choice.
