Eh, I dunno....I'm torn here actually.

I think this reform sucks in the respect of 'military or college'....as someone already said, that's a no brainer to many. And to get discounted rates for college when American citizens in other states don't even qualify for that...well that's just absolutely wrong.

I do understand the catch22 that these kids are in, but at the same time, to reward the parents' actions...well that's sending a message to other illegals 'hell, come on in, and eventually it'll get sorted' and that's not the message we should be sending. If these kids were not given a pathway, MAYBE the stupid parents would stop trying to get here.

These parents are using their children as pawns, forcing them in some cases to cross the border illegally in hopes for some pity amnesty

so later they can sponsor their parents who in turn sponsor the grandparents ect...

Chain migration started illegally all before those legally going through the process are even given a visa.

I think the problem with a lot of this is that where some of you see 'reward', people in the world of political expediency, who have to actually do something about the real people involved in this, don't see it that way, but see it as probably the only viable option to a problem that does exist.

The idea that you can simply push this problem away by 'sending them all back where they come from' is farcical.

However, no amount of explaining this to some people is going to change their minds. Illegal Immigrants are 'wrong' so they have to be 'punished' no matter what the consequences.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

The American people are sick and tired of accomodating and pandering to every illegal alien that floats across the Rio Grande with a hand full of gimme and a sense of entitlement.

Actually, I wonder just how high this is on the agenda of Joe/Jane Average American? I think they are more concerned with are they going to have a job, are they going to be able to sell their house, are their children safe, are they going to have coverage for the operation they need, is their relative ever coming home from Iraq, etc..... I just think that immigration reform isn't so high on the list of priorities for most people. I could ask anyone here at work and I'd bet immigration reform wouldn't be on their top 10 list of most important issues...

The Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act would allow undocumented high-school graduates to gain citizenship if they either attend college for two years or serve two years in the military.

Let me get this straight. Rather than assisting the 45,000,000+ Americans living in poverty, elected senators are actually proposing illegal immigrants get a handout and get-out-of-jail-free pass..

And the left made it out that GWB was the idiot and that General Petraeus was the traitor. Seriously what sort of morons vote for these guys??

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

It is an interesting dilemma though. The average Joe/Jane is more concerned about their Job. Yet ironically their job is exactly what illegal immigration is having the biggest impact on; as they are suppressing their wages.

Have you looked at what college costs here? Not many people are going to be able to afford it anyway and will take the military option. They wont qualify for state or federal education grant programs either.

Anyone who sees the solution to a problem this huge as a left wing versus right wing thing has seriously lost the plot in my opinion.

I do wonder why so many of these things are boiled down to mere ideology, as though this somehow explains and justifies whether something is right or wrong. Statements like “the left” or “the right” are I think used in the absence of a specific criticism against specific people.

Both of your beat around the bush posts where about as predictable as an atomic clock..

I guess I don’t see where I or PH are trying to boil illegal immigration down to a problem of relative ideology.

All I see is two people who constantly look for technicalities in someone's opinion to attack. Some of us could post the cure for cancer yet you guys would focus on a grammatical error. Take my post for example. You and PH completely disregarded the post yet focused on the term left.

There is seriously no point in trying to discuss anything with you guys. It is one thing disagreeing with someone and another looking for a leak to exploit; which you guys seem to have a knack for..

Hmmm - must have missed the part where I explicitly disagreed with your post (or even referenced it at all). I was making a general point about the tendency to use relative ideology to avoid making specific criticisms against specific people. Sort of blaming everyone and noone at the same time.

I must be Joe Average American! I have a house for sale in Topeka, KS if anyone is interested.

As for worrying about the job, I doubt very much that an "illegal" immigrant is going to ever take my job, and I dare say the vast majority of those on VJ aren't too worried about those darn "illegals" taking their jobs or reducing their pay.
