If getting Bubba's vote means changing Democratic positions in order to be more in line with Bubba's opinions and interests, then of course, no we don't want Bubba's vote.

Your tent isn't that big then?

BTW when we're done with the Bubba conversation, let's talk about what it takes to get the inner city homeboy vote.

You'd have to explain it to them in a hip-hop song.

"#######, I buy new blocks for war

A few shots, a broad, that make you drop

Then I'm a pop two cops or more

I'm too hot, I'm a go vote Hillary wit' two proper hoes"

It's the youth game, doin' it big

You don' like it, you and yo' kid get you and the whip, shіt

Voice your complaint to the authority

You vote for them 'cos they work for me!

So face it, y'all ain't nuttin to see

Ain't a ####### dead or alive who fuckin' wit' me

#######!"

Well – do the Reps go out of their way to get the black & Hispanic vote as well as that of those “San Francisco types”?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the right-wing catch phrases.

Exactly, those with Manhattan and San Francisco values aren't wanted. Fine then, I've got my own party.

I was just trying to point out the elitism that oozes from this story. They don't give a very flattering view of the dems. I hope that isn't the prevailing view of people on the left.

I didn't see the elitism, personally. The article seems to suggest that a particular group don't hold as much sway over elections as they once did. Politics is run by polls and statistics these days - how what you say will increase your vote by x.x%. It would be nice to think that the people who want to have a say in running the country will speak their mind, regardless of the consequences, and run the risk of alienating certain voters. But that doesn't happen. One of the main things that people tend to say about politicians is that "there's not much between them', "they all say the same thing", etc. Maybe it's because they all listen to pollsters and funnel their soundbites accordingly.

Although elitism exists, some of it is self-imposed, I would argue. In the same way that there's nothing stopping me going to watch NASCAR, there's nothing stopping 'Bubba' from hitting the opera when he's in town. Politicians who try to downplay the fact that they may watch the occasional subtitled film or see a play are just ridiculous. These obligatory hunting photo ops are stupid. If I'm electing someone to make important decisions on complex subjects, I don't mind that they have broad interests, from sport to the arts. Why do I want a leader I could have a beer with? I'd rather they knew world geography than who won American Idol.

That's where you and I differ. Now get the hell out of my party!

 Well, I can't vote anyway. But still, the party I'd vote for doesn't seem to exist in this country yet.
