affadavits: are they necessary or helpful?

For my I-129F application for the K1, an immigration attorney (who is NOT experienced in family visas, just in work-related ones) suggested that the statements from family members I will be using as supporting evidence of having met in the past two years be in the form of an affadavit and signed by a notary public.

Is this really necessary? Or particularly helpful?

Sometimes they can be helpful if you are lacking other evidence of having met. Without knowing what you have for evidence already I dont know how important it would be, but it wouldnt hurt.

We used one - my fiancee and I have spent a lot of time with my cousin and his family, so I had him write us an affadavit. It was not notarized (in fact it was just a fax) but he is a detective with a local police force attached to an RCMP office, so he sent it on his RCMP letterhead. Can't hurt. :) It was approved in any case -whether or not the affadavit had anything to do with it, I don't know, but I'm sure it helped, because we didn't have any concrete evidence of meeting, no passport stamps, no airline tickets, nothing beyond some pictures and printed out emails.

The more evidence you give them, the less likely they are to deny you for lack of evidence.
