Ok people, work is done. Here's our schedule for the following weeks:

Well, we have been packing since friday - sad to say we are not nearly half way through  . Most time spent with books and not all done after 40+ boxes (seriously thinking of having bonfire of books :reading:). Got rid of some really sh!tty furniture Bren had owned since undergradute days. My friend Sarah showed up unexpectedly saturday and sunday to bring some sanity to my otherwise lonely and disarrayed packing style. Chris (the Queen of packing) will be here wednesday; and in the meanwhile I will do things that are not amenable to break into little shatters (I am not allowed to go near B's chemistry equipment....). Today: bedroom. All my clothes are in boxes already, just kept out what I need for one week - shame on me I will be repeating outfits  . Outfit for Consulate picked out already and Bren seal of approval - he did not approve of my Lady Heather outfit and made me dress as if I wasa decent housewife DARN .

Tuesday: post office XPress Post envelope for Consulate. Make photocopies of "please don't park here on movig date" for our neighbours and of B's passport for UPAck. Wednesday: pack more with Chris. Thrusday: deposit cofee shop's last check and transfer some monies to our CAD account for paying the loaders since the ##$%% at the College will pay me by check damn it (I have to personaly pick it up) :ranting:. Friday call UPack Edmonton to arrange 7 a.m. delivery of truck, and arrange 8 a.m. delivery of expensive freakin' truckmloaders.

Then off to Montreal. Wednesday interview. Then, if denied, double suicide in Notre Dame :dead:. If approved, happy  outside consulate and sleep properly. Thursday back then friday movers here, Saturday clean appartment so landlord can come over check it out and give Dr. B his deposit back. Sunday --- Thursday we will be at Sarah's place. Thursday we get visa and travel towards the border, sleep somewhere along the road. Cross border at Sumas on Friday the 5 (vet inspection, etc.) in the morning. So we should be arriving in Mercer Island on the 6 or so.

During that first week of october we will need to contact UPACK Kent to ask for: guaranteed delivery on the 9th at say 8 a.m. (I guess that's 50 bucks more but at this time I don't give a rat's rear) and for a ramp (that one's free but one has to ask for it). On friday the 5th call and ask for 2 dudes to show up at say 9 a.m. and unload (waaaaay cheaper than in Canada, mind you) We have the signing appointment for the 8th at 1 p.m. - something tells me Bren will like to stay there even with no furniture that day - we'll see.

Overwhelming, eh???????? Welcome to our world. We are seriously going insane, but will manage. All that's left is for US government to say I'm good enough (I wonder if that too is up to God - hope so).

Len, done with her Monday ranting.

p.s. this is the first time I'm not at work on a monday.... wish I could just sit outside, read (shittt, books are packed), have a ciggie and drink coffeee. AAARRGGGGHHHH

I first read "40 books" and thought, "That's all?" :P Then I reread it and saw "40 boxes." Wow.

I'm also packing, but I have more time to finish. It's a lot of work, all right. I'm finding U-Pack's packing and loading tips to be useful. Another good packing tip I read somewhere is to fill boxes in the corners and in any gaps with crumpled-up newsprint so that they'll support the weight of boxes stacked on top of them.

I'm giving away some of my books on Craigslist. I might try to sell some others, such as the ones about the local area.

You'll get there. :)

40 boxes? I thought I had a lot of books  I'm still selling my old ones away, and waiting for the library to open up from the city strike so that I can donate the rest of my battered ones.

Len, do you have pictures of you in your Lady Heather outfit?

Damn, web browser.

40 boxes of books? That's what you get for reading Marcel Proust :)

Appropriate clothing for the interview should be something that reflects American idealism, I think you should go with your Britney Spears outfit. :P

Remember, in the beginning the word was with God, but God has nothing to do with US immigration.

Diabolos ex machina indeed.

hehehe 40 boxes. . . yeah, I can relate too! One of the first things we did when I arrived was to buy 8 more bookshelves to match the 8 already here so my books had a place to live too. Did I ever mention we decorate with books? Good luck on the move, Len! You can do it! Make sure your movers have a copy of the approved CR1 (or equivalent) as well so they will be allowed to deliver your shipment across the border.

My wife is a huge reader as well. We just donated 3.5 garbage bags of books to the library!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I love it when you rant! haha I really hope we're helping you retain your sanity. :innocent:

Take a deep breath and close your eyes and think of what this will look like when you're moved and sitting back relaxing...

We love you guys! *HUGS* Anxiously awaiting the results of your interview.

Piece of cake. Can you have someone post the Consulate results if there's a double suicide at Notre Dame? It's not really fair of you to make us sit and wonder for the rest of our lives.

That's why I chose Notre Dame. Believe me, it would make world wide news. ;)

Good thinking. Carry on.
