Hey,

My interview itsn't until Oct 24th, but I always need to plan ahead for EVERYTHING LOL! Anyways, I'm going to be taking the bus from Toronto to Montreal and I already decided I'm riding with Coach Canada and will get the 9pm departure and arriving in Montreal at 3:45am  . Theres another bus that arrives at 7:05am, but I want to be the 1st one in line at the Consulate LOL. Are there any lockers at the bus terminal to put my stuff in? I could probably call the bus terminal in Montreal and ask them, but talking to someone on the phone, is always like trying to pull teeth. No one ever has a straight answer and with my luck, I'll have someone answer the phone who has a thick accent and I wouldnt even be able to understand them anyways LOL. I've tried looking around on VJ for anyone who's taken the bus, but couldn't find anything. I'm on a budget, which is why I'm taking the bus. I would rather be staying at a hotel and have a better way of getting to my interview, but thats not an option. Also, I have read pretty much everywhere on here that no one was ever asked for their x-ray. Is there any point in bringing it? I already read the paper thats inside and theres nothing abnormal about the x-ray. If I should bring it, do I just roll it and put an elastic band around it, or is it just better to get one of those tube thingys to put it in? I think thats all the questions I have for now. Thanks in advance for any info!

Mary

Check the bus company's website for that terminal, it should say on there whether or not there are lockers.

And um...did you open the medical exam envelope that is taped shut and stamped that says "do not open"?

No, I don't think you need to take the x-ray. I think someone posted recently that it is not needed. Can't remember who though.

That was me and a couple other people. Everyone that brought their x-rays, ended up just carrying them around when I was there. They'll just tell you that they're good for 5 years and give them to your new doctor.

No, I didn't open that sealed envelope. There was a piece of paper inside the large envelope that my x-ray is in, so I looked at it. As far as the bus website, there was nothing there that said they had lockers at the Montreal location. I even emailed them asking and didnt get a straight answer. Just for me to call them.

If push comes to shove and you can't find lockers at the bus station, drop your stuff off and pay the $5-$10-whatever they are charging now at the cafe across the street from the consulate to hold your stuff.

Roll up the x-ray (do not crease it!), put it in a cardboard tube for easy carrying.

I have yet to hear on VJ about anyone being asked for their Xray! Did I bring mine? YES!! Wasnt that big of deal, I just rolled it up!! Its not as if they have anyone qualified to read it there!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Ooohhh I was considering taking the bus at insane hours of the morning too, but I don't want to be half asleep for the interview, lol. Are you planning on staying at the bus terminal and walking to the Consulate when it's lighter out, or taking a cab?

Well I figured being there at 4am would give me enough time to do NOTHING LOL. Maybe find a coffee shop or something and pray they are open around 5am or so. I tried looking on google, yahoo and mapquest to see how far it is from the bus station to the Consulate and maybe just walk there, but I can't seem to get a correct address for the bus terminal, so I have no idea where I'm headed once I get there LOL. If anyone knows where the bus terminal is from the Consulate, could you let me know please. I'm hoping that I can get a few hours sleep on the bus on the way there and then I can sleep on the way back. I'm bringing plenty of Advil for the headache I'll have from lack of sleep.

From my previous trips to Montreal I remember there's a website called tourismemontreal.com or something like that. They had quite useful info.

Bring in your X-ray in a roll (I have no clue ####### I will do to transport mine) even if they don't ask for it. Better have it with you than face the "where's your X-ray?" crappp is the CO woke up without his/her coffee.

Peace, L.

If you stay at the HI Montreal hostel, you'll be able to sleep the night before, and you'll probably be able to leave your bags there during the interview. It isn't really close to the consulate, but it's in the same city.

The non-member rate is $30/night in a shared room.

That was just the first hostel I found. See this page for more Montreal hostels. Some may be closer and/or cost less.

I was first off the elevator and in line to get my number but that made no difference because some twenty odd people were ahead of me going in for their interview, that may have been because I had pre-paid at the bank which was not to be done. They may have thought I was a CR and not a K1 because of the pre-payment, The number I was given was C-1, others may be able to confirm this by what the number was they were given. Calling the numbers is done alphabetically starting with A-1

As for lockers at the bus terminal, they do have them and that is the good news, the bad news is that the person that sells the tokens is not there until 7:30 in the morning and only tokens are accepted.

Well that really sucks. I was hoping to be sitting outside the Consulate at like 6:45am to be first in line lol. When I went, only the first five got the A-E numbers, the rest got the same as you, A1 etc.and had to wait to be called. I was the only K1 applicant in the first five. So they don't go by visa types.

The bus terminal does have lockers. I was in it when I took the suttle from the airport. We had to stop at the bus terminal to transfer to another bus and I saw lockers in the waiting area.

There is also a coffee shop that is right in the lower level of the same building of the consulate. It is open by at least 7:00am. I sat in it and drank my coffee until 7:15am and I was still first in line. There was only two others waiting with me by the time the doors opened.
