Hi everyone. Im back in the states now..those 10 hour flights take it out of you! Anyways, like i said , im going to use my cousin as a co-sponsor. he lives in arkansas so i decided to use my grandmother as a back up since she lives close to me. so i will have 2, but my question is, does it look bad using a retired person as a co-sponsor? With her pension and social security, she makes well over enough and has bonds also. Is that okay, or dont they like that?

Also, After reading the guidelines, it mentions a sponsors age, education and health also come into the overall evaluation. Im 25 and have never made over 9,000 a year. Ive never worked for a whole year, and dont have a college education. But ive been doing amateur photography for 5 years with intention of turning pro very soon- after I aquire some more equipment but dont think it will happen til after we are married. Does only having a high school education matter in this situation? Plus my fiancee will soon graduate from interior design school and will be a proffesional as soon as shes able. I have no degree or anything in photography, never needed it. my dad teaches me everything i need to know and is very good. But theres no evidence of any training that i can provide. With this situation and 2 co-sponsors, i should be okay right? Im worried because it seems like many people on here need co-sponsors but the most common reason is because they are in college or recently graduated.

Hi Paul,

Please be reminded that every embassy is different. My fiance (husband now) was only 19 that time when we filed the i129f. He didnt finish school but had a small business - but it was not that great. Since we thought his earnings would not be enough, we asked his Aunt to be his co-sponsor. And so it was my interview day at the embassy. Everything was great until I faced this US consul officer. ...... I got denied of my visa. Sure was a hell of a pain. I was even crying infront of this officer. She told me that co-sponsors are ok but not w/ K1's as K1s should prove and show that they are capable of supporting ther beneficiaries. I was really upset cuz why would they approve my petition but deny my visa. They should have informed us long before or could have denied my petition before I went through all this visa application and interview. Well to make the story short, we waited months, my husband got a good job, paid his taxes and went back to the embassy with his new earning statements and tax returns and voila I finally got my visa. We didnt go all through the application of the petition (i-129f) again since it was approved the first time. We were only asked to come back when his ready to sponsor, that is when he gets higher earnings basically.

I have posted this story already along time ago and again, do not rely on my story. I just wanted to share my experience and always remember that every situation and embassy is different. good luck and hope you could update us.

Thats a bunch of BS.There is no problem with a co-sponsor with a K1.I had to have my sister be a co-sposor for my wife(then fiance) and her 6 yr old daughter. We had no problems at all.Im willing to bet you were denied bcause of other reasons.Having a co-sponsor on a K1 is fine!

Not necessarily. Every consulate "interprets" the rules as they see fit. Things that would fly in one consulate, would cause you to be denied in another. If you had an officer who decided that his/her interpretation is that co-sponsors are unacceptable for K-1's, then unfortunately, you're going to be denied. You can appeal based upon the fact that the immigration laws clearly state otherwise, but that's going to take time and money.

Inconsistency is the hallmark of the US immigration system.

canusa, it is not BS. How can you even say that? Thats kind of rude of you. You're not even from the same country. As what I have said above, every embassy is different. I have gone through all this process and I am telling the truth. That exactly what the consul told me and did what we were advised and finally got our visa. I was just sharing my experience w/ Paul and thats it.

Thanks for your posts responses. its atleast a lil reassuring to know that they give you a second chance without going through the entire process again. question- has anyone had experience with the consulate in rio de janeiro, brazil in terms of co-sponsors? Id like to hear from anyone who knows anything.

As far as I heard from other couples with a brazilian alien, co-sponsors are accepted in Rio, they even sometimes say "come back when you have a co-sponsor" for those petitionaries that don´t overcome the minimum requirement.

I dunno about the age of the co-sponsor though.

But I haven´t heard of them not accepting one, please keep me posted if anything happen ´cus I´m gonna use one as well.
