Mumbai Consulate, CR1/IR1 Interview

I am sure Bombay embassy might be using last week of last Month (For Example. January) as a cut off date for scheduling the interviews for next month (For Example. March).

I think when it comes to scheduling the interviews, Embassies might be allocating few percentages to each categories. And you know, There are lot of K3 applications compare to CR/IR applications as everyone wants their spouses to be in USA ASAP. That could be one of the reasons waiting time for interview is way longer than expected.

Might be true. I did see appoinments for month of APR and May, and majority were for K1 and not even K3. It was K1--> IR1/CR1 -> K3.

Here is a link to Mumbai's Visa Issuance Statistics for the past 12 months.

On that link you will see that Bombay embassy issued about 9000 non immigrant visas compared to only about 1000 immigrant visa for the month of April 2006. There must be other categories than just K and CR/IR. But this could be the reason, why non immigrant interview take little longer at Embassy.

I will try to find some more statistic broken down by visa categories.

NVC Timeline

11/15/2005 - NVC case number assigned

01/04/2006 - NVC completed the case... ( 50 days)

01/11/2006 Case sent to Embassy

01/16/2006 Case deliverd to Embassy as per DHL tracking

February 7th, 2006 Found out Interview date by Calling DOS (202-663-1225)

February 13, 2006 - Packet 4 received

March 21st, 2006 - Medical

March 23rd, 2006 - Interview --- VISA APPROVED

March 24th - Passport received. ( Applicant picked up passport from Courier/delivery service office)

April 7th - Hubby's POE at Chicago.

April 10th - Trip to SSA Local office to apply for Social Security Card.

April 27th - 1st Welcome letter

May 1st - 2nd Welcome letter

May5th - Received Social Security card in mail

May 11th - Received Green Card in mail

196 Days @ USCIS ( 178 for NOA2 + 18 case transfer at NVC)

50 Days @ NVC to complete the case

13 Days @ case transfer at embassy

65 Days @ Embassy

Total -324 days from NOA1 to Visa approval

also quick question that when do embassy sent out inteviiew date is it before 10 15 days?

December 8 2004: Filled I 130

Jan 27 2005: approval and priority date which was Dec. 30 2004. NOA1

March 2nd 2005: Received visa processing fees and Affidavit of support fee Bill IV

March 5th 2005: Send fee bill via Registered mail.

March 7th 2005: Got message that they have received the Fee bills and in process to generate the I864 and DS 230.

Long wait of period then:

Exactly 25 working days later

April 26th 2005: Got package at lawyer office.

April 29th 2005: Got DS 230 Signed from my spouse from India.

May 1st 2005: Mailed express(Fedex) overnight the package.

May 5th 2005: Case completed.

May 11th 2005: Case sent to Indian US embassy(Mumbai)

Waiting for interview date now.

YEAH...Finally.. the date is here.

July 13th Interview(Exact two months after case completed at NVC and sent to Mumbai Embassy)))))

June 20(approx) Police Clearance.

1st July Medical!!

13th JULY Interview and APPROVED!!!

HAPPY REUNION on 18th of JULY after 7 months and 5 days of Sending out the I 130 to interview approved!!

17 July Got Letter 797 for Green Card issuence!

28 July SSN Card.

8 August Green Card recieved.

I think embassy mails appointment letter in the first week of the month. I was able to find out our interview date by calling DOS ( 1-202-663-1225) in the first week of February. Indian post delivered the letter on Feb 13th which was dated Feb 1st.

You might be lucky. I did call NVS, bu they said appoinment is handle by mumbai consulate and they gave me consulate number. (Which already know).

I see you had called DOS, I may try with them now.

Patdev,

My wife's interview is in last week of May and I have my fingers crossed. Looking and verifying if everything is there and in order :). Does anyone know how long the courier service take to get the passport back in our hand. (wife is in ahmedabad, gujarat)? The courier service asked for Rs. 150 extra per person if the person wants to sit in AC room, eat snacks and if we need to get the passport the same day, does anyone know about this?

Personally I like Pramod Mahajan as a politician so kinda sad on the demise, especially this way.

Any thing else that I need to know about this interview. My wife is going to have her medical done at Lilavati as heard a lot of bad reviews at Breach Candy, any opinions? anyone?

Hey!

My wife got the passport bakc on same day, but i don't think she had to pay anything. I don't know if the rules have been changed, she got her visas back in August 2005.

Hey lomeshp and patdev,

How are you guys doing? I see you guys are still helping everyone on the board.. I got a quick question for you guys.. I am looking at going to Niagara Falls over the upcoming long weekend.. Do you know if there is any issues with crossing the border.. I am planing to take my wife passport and Green card.. I don't think we need a VISA or anything do we..

no worry man i went to Mexico with my wife so that is fine. enjoy man.

how's everything going. I doubt that she will need visa but just call them and find out. 99% not needed.

hi Vaguy78,

No worry at all.

Actually my wife did not pay extra for passport also and neither there was facility called ac where you can eat snack because on the web site of mumbai consulate it strickly says no food drink allowed inside embassy. but better checck with embassy and find out if it is a fault information to get money from applicant or what!!

also for interview make sure you got everything like all certificates, photos for proof of relation ship!!
