Authorities are searching for a drive-by shooter who guns down cows as they calmly munch grass in the rolling pastureland 50 miles north of San Francisco. Since February, five cows have been found dead in two counties, shot with small-caliber bullets designed to inflict prolonged pain and suffering.

cough bullchit cough.

That's what you focused on in the article? You don't find that behavior the least bit disturbing?

Not much more disturbing than "hunting", and less disturbing than drive-by shootings of pedestrians.

You compare driving down the road shooting cows out of a car window to hunting? Silly boy! I just don't see it. Have you ever been hunting?

the game warden ain't known for having a sense of humor about that

What I read in this article was a lobbying statement for tighter laws against the agricultural industry--by scapegoating some supposedly unfortunate trends in violence against animals. However I notice there was little in the way of facts in the report--hardly any names or places or dates were mentioned. So how does one even know that some of the exampled incidents really occurred.

No, I haven't. I imagine hunting is not easy, whereas shooting cows out of a car window

requires very little skill and gives you the instant gratification of a kill.

The main point I was trying to make is that cows are domesticated animals that have at least some interaction with humans. Wild animals at least have a fear or wariness of humans to give them a chance. Wild animals are creatures in the natural world and do not owe their survival in the wild to humans.

Most outdoors people and hunters are conservation minded and the thought of shooting an animal out of pure meanness just for a cheap laugh and leaving it to rot in the sun is appalling to most of us as wasteful and makes no logical sense. Hunting is a way of life and an attitude toward nature. The killing of the animal is not the biggest thrill of hunting. I have been on some very enjoyable hunting trips and didn't get to shoot any game. The same can be said for my fishing trips too.

That was all I was trying to get across.

A lot of misinformed people look at hunting as cruel. I look at widespread destruction of wild habitat to make room for weekend condos for yuppies as being far more cruel and destructive to nature than regulated hunting ever will be.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."
