Smokers are overall pretty inconsiderate people. As a former smoker, I am comfortable making that statement.
Sorry, but IMO most people are pretty inconsiderate, not just smokers.
Fine. Most people's lack of consideration for others doesn't make me sick, though. ;)
What about all the incosiderate people who come into work when they're sick and spread their germs all over the place?

I know everyone just loves to villify smokers though, so please continue...

I have recovered from many colds. I am not aware of anyone that has recovered from lung cancer. The comparison doesn't work.

or inconsiderate people who let one loose in your presence, or wear so much cologne that you would swear they took a bath in it? What about exhausts from vehicles or factory spew ?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

smokers aren't bad people..... some smokers seem to be pretty inconsiderate of their surroundings when they smoke...

I have a tonne of aunts and uncles who smoke and they would smoke in my grandparents tiny house... they wouldn't even try and shield the smoke from the children in the house... there would be this big cloud of smoke in the house by the end of the night and when we got home you could almost wring the smoke out of your clothes....

Farts and the scent from cologne - however strong - don't cause terminal illness. Vehicle exhausts and factory emissions may. The question then is this: Is it possible to ban factories and vehicles without bringing this country to an immediate standstill? Not quite. Is it possible, though, to ban cigarette smoke without having that effect? Absolutely.

I didn't say or suggest any such thing. I am just saying that there isn't anything wrong with protecting the non-smoking public from the poison that some choose to kill themselves with. It's your business - and I could not care less - what you do with your health. Just stay out of mine.

:o

Wow. That's a little extreme. Besides.... no need to shoot them when they're going to kill themselves anyway.

Seriously, though. Whether someone chooses to smoke or not is their business. I always feel sad, though, when I see it. I have friends and loved ones who smoke. I don't hate them. And I certainly don't want to shoot them. I just don't want to smell/inhale it or have them get sick or die from it. :(

Back to topic.... ironic that the city with the same name of a brand of cigarettes wants to ban them. Can't see them being able to enforce all the proposed laws, however they may have success in some. It will be interesting to follow the outcome.

Secondhand smoke is a concern but I'm for legalizing versus illegalizing (relax, I know it's not a word) substances. I've never smoked but I see the abuse smokers get.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

i agree. at least smokers smoke outside while those that are sick cough and hack up a lung inside.

Public buildings are one thing - and I do think its reasonable to make them 'smoke free'. As far as that goes however - it seems to me that extending the law to extend onto private property is rather overstepping the bounds.

If anything - I think building codes should cover smoking policies for individual apartment buildings (or even something that can be written into tenancy agreement). Many housefires are caused by discarded or dropped cigarettes - it does seem rather against the pale for one persons recreational habit to put others lives and property at risk.

I think smoking should be done outside and not put on other non smokers. I'm a smoker and I don't appreciate someones cigarette smoke in my face. On the other hand people are saying alcohol has no affect on other people health wise. What about drunk drivers? Are we going to ban all drivers from buying alcohol?
