The best I ever used was NomiMax from a local newsagent, printed like a receipt. It was 1000 minutes for 10 pounds. I never used it from a payphone, but often used it from my mobile. They had an 020 7 020 8 0845 and 0800 access #s (although you got less minutes using the 0800). Overall it was excellent, very clear and never got cut off.

I have always used Nomi Call phone card, it gives FREE calls to USA from 8pm - 8am British time. I have always used the 0207 access number tho. I am not sure if it will give u FREE calls with 0800 or payphones but its definitely worth a try, because if it does...a £5 card will last you a full month!

Not sure how much it costs from a phonebox, but ratebuster is 1p per minute. All you do is dial 08447 202020 from your phone before the US number and you are charged a penny a minute.

The post office sells phonecards for £5, £10 and £20 denominations. I use those and get 3 hours out of £10.

Hee, I used the Royal Mail cards, too. Because I worked at Gatwick airport at the time and it was just easiest to but one from work. Using it on my home phone gave me loads of time. I even used to call up wedding venues and arrange for times for my fiance to go look at them, since he couldn't call as he was at work.

I used to get the Nomi cards from my local newsagent. You can normally find great deals on phonecards at newsagents, especially if you are in or near a part of London with a high Immigrant population. I went in and talked to the newsagent and they went through all the phonecards with me and the different rates. They were very friendly and helpful and stocked all different kinds and were able to recommonend particular cards that they used regularly themselves. Which ever works out best for you has got to be cheaper than BT, right?! :)

Well i use pennyphone when ity works. The last few days it has not been working which is hopefully just them busy over bank holiday. Penny phone is as you might guess 1p a minute and their number is 0844 721 4721 followed by the number you want to call and *. BT is like 5p a minute if you have the international option which is an extra £1 a month. We had a phonecard that my wife(USA) called me from and that was often a ####### line although it was cheap.

You HAVE to buy UCN phonecards, I have $1.18 left on the card and that gives over 2 hours to the UK. You can buy them online.

:D

Whoops, just saw that you said UK to US and not the other way round! Still, when you get here....
