SSN QUESTION

Timeline

WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO GET A SSN # ON A K1 AFTER TWO WEEKS OF ARRIVAL AND OR BEFORE THE 70 DAYS AS I READ OPPOSED TO WAIING UNTIL MARRIAGE AND SENDING IN ALL IN AT ONCE AFTER MARRIAGE UNDER NEW NAME.. AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE ? WE ARE NOW AT THE 64 DAYS ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT !! THANKS

They will not issue a SSN within 14 days of the I-94 expiring--so you can't get one after day 76 (76 + 14 = 90).

You can wait until after you are married (we did), but all too often, the SSA employees don't understand their own rules and refuse to issue one after marriage.

The initial 2 week wait is to give time for the SAVE system to be updated after entry so that your information will be available to the SSA.

07/12/2006 AOS Interview APPROVED

07/24/2006 GC arrived

05/02/2007 Driver's License - Passed Road Test!

05/27/2008 Lifting of Conditions sent (TSC > VSC)

06/03/2008 Check Cleared

07/08/2008 INFOPASS (I-551 stamp)

07/08/2008 Driver's License renewed

04/20/2009 Lifting of Conditions approved

04/28/2009 Card received in the mail
