It sounds a lot like a guy who happened to break a window with a hollow-plastic golf ball who denied it when his dad asked him the question. In retelling (which I actually heard), he stated he would have probably gotten away with it if he had not bragged to his (till-then disbelieving) buddy that such balls could break plate-glass (unfortunately, his dad heard it so he couldn't sit down for a few days afterwards).
