Hey guys/gals;

Just wondering if after your SO enters, if they took the GED before they applied for any jobs. I recently moved and when I started applying for jobs they require a GED for even housekeeping jobs. How have they fared and if they were required to have a GED, did they just take the exam. Or did they have to go to a GED class? I plan to take a GED book to JA for Mike when I go back next month, so he will be prepared for the test. He has had formal education and is very intelligent, but the US way is so different for them, I want him to be prepared. The language is somewhat different because they use the Queens english.

What have you guys SO done? :blink:

My ex (from Mexico) took GED classes for a year and a half but never did take the test. I do think it made her feel more comfortable though :thumbs:

Hubby started the GED classes but got hired before he could take the test. Mind you he already graduated HS (has the papers here) and college credits, but the college advisor told us that it would be easier for him to take the test and apply for classes than to try and have the transcripts reviewed to see if they match up to standards here *kissteet* :angry:

The main reason I asked was that the types of jobs I was looking into that Mike would qualify for all require a GED. I know that there are positions/.employers that would employ him without. He was in the army for 8 years and the police force for 6 years. I figure with his extensive law enforcement background, he should not have any problems, but you never know. Thanks you guys. :thumbs:

My brother-in-law was a police officer for years in JA and he was able to obtain a job w/o attending GED classes. However, I am thinking of having take ESL classes (b/c the language is so different).
