The inmigration officer at the AOS interview told us that it depends on how common is the alien's name. I hope it works for me.

SM&LP went for their AOS interview, right? The person conducting the interview, the Immigration Officer, told them that it all depends on the person who is applying, the alien , on how common a person's name is.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

i dont believe it has anything to do with a common name. i think thats just a pacifier to the person asking. if it were done on common names every mohammad in the middle east (and yes there are many) would be stuck. also england have many many common names and im not seeing that many stuck.

my husband has been stuck almost 3 years now and he says his name is not that common...at least not as common as mohammad would be.

Does your husband match anyone on this list? Even just a partial name match?

Hmmm. My name or partial name does not match any on that list. Guess I was right.... my file is sitting at the bottom of someone's growing pile.

What means that SDN list? May i know where do you got it?. Only my second last name is often in that list, but not too much!

I know my husbands first & last names together and separate are uncommon...and he had no problems but I doubt that's really the root of it. There's just a lot of inefficiency, I'm afraid.

My maiden name was extremely common in Germany and my married name is extremely common in the US.

My name check was done within two months after the interview - I don't believe in the common name theory.

Did you contact anyone on the name check or just waited? See I want my Beautiful husband to have his GC in hand as he is a super person and deserves to not have to look over his shoulder anymore, ( he does not now ) but it would be so much better if he had the card. It would most likley better for me as I am the one stressing and I am a USC. :)

This particular list, is a list of people and organizations that have had any assets frozen by the treasury department due to association with criminal or terrorist groups. While i doubt its the complete list that the FBI uses, anytime a name matches someone on the list, even partially. They have to make sure that the person they are checking is not the person that has a partial name match.

Not many Germans in criminal or terrorist groups though. Thats why its not likely to be a problem for you. Even with a common name.

Ok I guess my name won't be a problem either. I am from Denmark and my last name is Andersen. It's very common in Denmark though, but my middle name is very odd and really not often.

Thank you very much for that link. It was very interesting.

I saw a real story movie last night about muslims hijacking an airplane.

Not to hurt any innocent people, but I am afraid that it is more than 100 percent namecheck if from this area.

There is no way to predict how long the name check will last.

This has all been said before, but here we go again.

The short version:

The FBI gets your full name and the computer checks all of the permutations of your name throughout the world.

If there are any hits on your name, they must be followed up on manually.

the long version:

FBI Name Check
